Antenna For Sirius Radio

Just had a new stereo system installed in my Sunseeker and they mounted the speaker on the top of my front windshield. I do not get really good reception since the front cap blocks the reception. Wondering how many of you have the small antenna mounted on the top of your rig or on the front wheel well.
Thanks for the input.

I mounted my magnetic Sirius antenna on the hood just in front of the windshield. I rarely have a reception problem.

I would rather have my antenna on the hood or fender well rather then on the roof. Get nervous when someone is drilling into my motorhome.
How tall is your antenna?

The small antenna is designed to work well when attached to a metal panel like the hood. Even better would be to attach a small steel plate to the roof with adhesive (no holes) and stick the magnetic antenna to the steel. Excellent connection to satellites and great reception will result.

Put mine on the roof. Ran the wire up to one of the side windows in the cab over area. Was able to run the wire out the window and still close it since it is so small in diameter. Double sided taped the antenna to the roof and siliconed around it. No drilling, been there for one year now.

Antenna

Someone once posted that they put it inside in a cabinet. They said since the roof was fiberglass it got a signal. I guess it's worth a try.

I attached my sirius antenna with a dab of dicor. No holes in roof, just routed down the slide and back in thru a existing hole.

I bought one of those antennas that you might see mounted on the mirrors of a semi. I mounted it on my rear ladder, ran the wire down the ladder, under the left rear slide, under the rubber and then to the radio. It works great and it sits under the 13 ft height of the 5er. No holes at all except in one place in a cabinet to run the antenna wire. Bought it through Amazon.

I have a TT and did not permanently mount mine for fear of a potential tree problem depending on the camp site. Instead I use the standard auto magnetic mount antenna with a 15 foot cord. After we get parked, I just run it out a window and position where I get the best reception, sometimes just laying on the ground. Never had a problem with anyone walking on it. Works great.

Originally I used the standard little square antenna and mounted it as far forward as I could on the top edge of the left front fender. I bought touch up paint and painted it white to match the fender color. It worked rather well, but was not perfect. If we parked facing due north, the cabover blocked the signal.

I found an indoor antenna that I had purchased for an XM receiver that I used indoors. It is about three inches square and has an adjustable angle on it. It does not need to be on a metal surface. I used velcro to stick it to the bunk material in the front of the cab. I elevated it about 45 degrees. It works great. Occasionally, we park in a spot where the signal is not good. I just pull it up and move it until the signal is usable. We don't use the bunk for much except storage, but it is easily moved if needed. No holes through the roof or anywhere else.

Used to have Cab Over Campers that we used on out pick-up trucks,,, I installed a radio antenna on the passengers side near the front,,, when we had the Camper on the truck the antenna clipped to the truck antenna with a alligator clip,,, worked great,,,
I am guessing they no longer make those ??? So we very seldom ever turn the radio on,,, because the reception is so poor,,, even after the factory replace the original one !!! All they had to do when they built the Sunseeker was hook the dash mounted radio to the antenna on the roof !!! DAU !!!

Your antenna works best when it can "see" the satellite. If it is under tree cover, or close to a cliff or tall buildings the signal will be interrupted or at least weakened.

We were out camping in an opening, no trees or buildings around. Did I read correctly from another thread the Sirius antenna is in the roof near the TV antenna?

How tall is your antenna?

The antenna is a puk style low profile can't see it looking out the windshield

It's about twice the size of a silver dollar and is magnetic. There are devices that send a signal from the receiver to the rigs radio antenna. I tried that and it didn't work near as well as just using the receiver normal magnetic antenna.

The one on the dash is very similar, but it is the antenna for the GPS.
