awning LED replacement parts
My second set of LED lights are failing on our sunseeker class C. The first set was replaced last year in warranty so I do not know the parts or process... I would love for d@metic to read the post (or answer the email I sent them) and step up. Hey, even an IPB and a part number would be helpful.
Guess it's on me to fix.... So how about some help.
It looks to be a channel of some sort that is keeping the current factory ones on the coach, and not the 3M tape that is discussed on Amazon.
So..... Who has successfully changed these lights and will share the procedure. What did you buy (waterproof?), did the factory electrical connector require mods (or plug and play?), how did you mount them?
I'll stop here as any further comments would not be not very positive.
Any thoughts from Management?

Have you checked with Carefree of Colorado? The LED lights for their awnings may very well be interchangeable but the only way to find out for sure is to ask them.

I would look on line for water proof led strip lights. It will be allot cheaper than going to dometic.

Check superbrightleds.com. They have online chat and telephone support. I'll bet they could find a better quality replacement. I've been to their warehouse in suburban St. Louis. Real American people who try very hard to help.

Rv Bill - Do you have factory LED awning lights and if so are they still working? Dealer wants 83 for the part, and sit down now, 235 for the install.
I went yesterday for a haircut, I don't need another one. I think it is time for a poll.
A couple of questions campers:
1. Do you have FR LED awning (d@metic) lights and have they failed?
2. If the LED lights failed how many months without failure?
3. Do you have FR LED awning (d@metic) replacement lights and have they failed?
3. If the replacement LED lights failed how many months without failure?
I may just be unlucky with a quality product but my answers to these questions are:
Yes, 12 month, yes, 12 months.
FR did respond to my email with a pleasant note telling me that these lights fail from time to time, my statistics seem to suggest time and time again.... For those playing along at home will know that we need a minimum sample size for 60 (my apologies to Neter et al.) to question one above to actually determine a valid conclusion.

I bought the 16' strip off of Amazon for $8, its width was smaller than the track the original fit into, I just used the sticky back inside the track. Went in quick, I just soldered to original leads, used shrink tubing over the exposed ends. It's been up for 2 months now, no problems so far. If it comes off or fails, I'll just replace with another.

Mine did not come with factory light strips and I have not installed any. I have replaced all interior lights with LEDs and outside marker lights. All from superbrightleds.com. They were very helpful in suggesting right ones for replacement.
I also replaced my tail lights with LED modules. Lots brighter and safer. Got those on Amazon and they are made by Bargman (the original tail lights are also).

Just needed to pipe in to your response about your led lights, while it does seem excessive to need to replace them this often it is not unreasonable today with all the china bulbs that you may need to. But my real thing is Forest river dose not make awnings or led bulbs so it really is not their issue nor problem, Rv's are not cars the company that makes a car makes all of the car, company's that make rv's make the structure and buy all the rest of the parts from some other company so the company that makes (or sells) the product is the one you need to go back to, and also most if not all company's today that I have every worked with, will replace the first item but when it fails the second and more times it is on the owner!
Sorry for your troubles and I hope you get it fixed soon
Happy Camping

RV BILL
Could I trouble you for the part number of your old and new tail lights if they are handy?
Sounds like the next mod...

Hoglou,,I had the same problem with my Dometic LEDs..
New 2014 3050 and within 8 mos those lights warped up like a twisty snake in the track. My RV was parked outside all last year so I'd assume the hot summer days created quite a bit of heat next to that rolled up black awning.
I took it in for warranty replacement, that light fixture is a long plastic channel that slides into the track, and upon sliding the new one in it fillet itself and was ruined. A month or so later back at the shop they installed another one, but a few months later I could see it bulging out of the channel in one spot.
I'll leave it there until it warps or fails again then I'm going with the DIY light strips everyone's talking about.
The Dometic channel plastic strip is a poor design and fails too quickly IMO. Oh, but they replaced that wrinkled awning as well once the service department saw how bad it looked. If anything, I'm just happy that I got my awning all straightened out

2014 3170 ford. LEDs started to fail 3 months after purchase. Waiting on dealer to call when they come in. That was 14 months ago. Guess they are still back ordered. Now, not enough LEDS left to provide light. I can live without, DW fusses. I guess I will look at this again, sometime. I like it dark anyway. Just me.

I have a 2013 3010 that did not come with factory installed awning LEDs. After seeing prices over $100 for after market RV LEDs my wife searched for water proof LEDs and found the same product for about $25. I installed them on the awning tube. I then found an extension cord that plugs directly into the LED strip and the controller so the controller and power cord are under the awning. After two years have only lost a couple single LEDs.

You still got the yeti?
AS I posted earlier, They started failing after 2nd month, the unit is now 2 years,4 month old. I think I still have about 40% left. As I sit and see one wink out without a whimper, I think, another one gone. I am still waiting for dealers phone call. I guess the DW will insist on replacing them but for now, enjoy just watching them die one by one.
Have you given any thought to using the 12volt feed for something else and ditching the lights?
