Normally the chassis battery (under the hood) and the coach battery (under the door steps) are not connected to each other. But if for some reason the chassis battery is dead (meaning you cannot start the engine) you can use the coach battery to provide power for starting the engine. There is a switch down low on the drivers seat (door side). When you hold that switch down, the coach battery is connected to the chassis battery. While holding the switch down, you start the engine, using power from the coach battery. In other words, it is like jumping your dead chassis battery from another battery.
As stated above, this is a momentary contact switch. Which means you need to hold it down the whole time you want the two batteries connected. Its location on the left side of the drivers seat makes it possible to hold it with your left hand while turning the key with your right hand to start the engine.
BTW, no need to do this for the reverse situation. If your coach battery is dead, just start the engine. It will provide power from the alternator to the coach battery.
