Bed Weight Limits 3170ds
Overhead cab weight?
Ladder limit?
Couch weight (into bed)?
Lower Bunk weight?
My MIL may be coming with us on our spring break trip and I need to figure out where she can sleep. Thank you to anyone who can answer these questions.

M-I-L and weight limits in the same sentence is a no-no. I hope she doesn't read your post.

The overhead cab is sturdy but I find the 300LB area is a safe precautionary number for over the cab. The Dinette and Couch could have more because of the location in the coach.

My thoughts would be if she can climb the ladder she will be fine, ok now saying that I like the thought of pulling a small trailer behind a sort of a mother in law suite .

These are also her concerns. She's not a dummy.

Not to be a smarty, but there should be a recommended weight limit sticker on the bulkhead, er wall, at one end of the over cab bunk. My 2006 has a sticker hidden behind the curtain on the driver side that refers to a suggested weight limit of 250 lbs. The ladder should be able to handle that. Now, that being said, most engineers build in "Murphy factor", as in over engineering the strength. The fold out couch may be easier to use. My mom in law is a spry 75 years young and would use the couch if she ever went with us.

hockeytownmom, re M-I-L she will have a blast and if she doesn't climb a ladder to clean out her eavestrough at home then I would say keep her lower to the ground ---couch ..

She had knee replacement last year, she hasn't been climbing anything recently. Plus she was in a car accident last year as well which tore her shoulder muscle and screwed up her back and I want to make sure she's comfortable.

Hate to say it but, you may need to give her your bed and you sleep on the overcab. The wife and I slept there when the arrangements called for it. Older sister and husband could not get up there due to age. No bad sleeping.

Oh, I think it has been posted before and I remember a 600lb limit. I know it is fine with 400lbs. See above post.

I am curious about this as well. We purchased a 2011 3170ds last month and the manuals and paperwork are hit and miss. I've looked everywhere I can google and still coming up on empty. There are no stickers anywhere that I can find. Assistance appreciated.

Posted in another thread about the upper bunk by FR rep BClemens;
"Yes, the "official" rating is 300 lbs. Here's the thing. That is a one piece side wall. We use 1 1/2" aluminum tubing to frame the wall (most of our competitors use 1"). We then laminate fiberglass (exterior), Azdel Composite (under that) and Vinyl covered lauan (on the inside of the wall). That is all glued together and vacuum laminated. The bottom would fall out before the side cracks...at least then you land on the roof of the cab."

Thanks for your help with this. I don't know why this information has been so hard to come by. Good people on FRF come through again!

Speaking of M-I-L suite, I once saw a fairly large CAMPER pulling a regular travel trailer. I wondered what was the story on THAT! Were they bringing their M-I-L along or was it for the kids?
Along the subject of this thread, a friend of mine said the couch folded down was fairly comfortable.
