Bigfoot leveler problem

I just wanted to share this with others that will eventually have this failure. I have a 3010DS but likely it will affect others. After about 2 years my Bigfoot levelers started working intermittently and then not at all. Kudo's to Pete's RV for finding a corroded Bigfoot wiring harness connector at fault. On the 3010DS the harness runs along the frame, passenger side. Right under about where the propane tank is, is where the connector is. It appears to have the connector only to make the harness a two piece for ease of initial installation. Pete's removed the connector and hardwired together. Really no need for a connector there. It is in a very vulnerable place if you drive in the winter on salty roads it'll go bad. Unless if your rig is new, maybe coat it with grease or fit a rubber booty over it. Otherwise if Bigfoot starts acting funny remove/replace that connector. Again thanks to Pete's RV. Great service! Locations in VT, CT, MA, IN

Not long after getting our RV home, while adding other things, I was underneath, and wrapped, tied up, many wire runs and connectors. Keep in mind, at least for a C, the cut away likely sits out in the weather for several months before the house is put on. In my case, this sit out time was in winter, and I could see the effects, such as starting of surface rust.

By securing the wires better, and at least wrapping the connectors for extra protection, it makes it less dicey to spray underneath to clean (for rust prevention application, and for routine cleanup).

This is something anyone can do, who is willing and able to crawl under.

I did the same thing. Some of the wire routing was just asking for trouble either from snagging or chafing. What got me started was the improper re-routing of a Ford factory harness by Forest River. The wiring melted against the exhaust system and had to be replaced. Luckily I caught this during PDI and refused delivery until the dealer had it repaired at a Ford dealership. It pays to take a look under these rigs, not only when new but also on occasion afterward.
