Boring through rear wall?

I have an old Sunseeker (2003) and I have always found that the tail/brake/signal lights are missed by a lot of drivers .... they are not bright enough. I have purchased a couple of high visibility LED lights and want to mount them up high on the rear of my motorhome. Does anybody have experience boring through the rear wall of a Sunseeker or would it be better to mount them in a box on the exterior of the wall? I would like to hide the wiring if possible. Please advise.
