Boycott San Diego

San Diego will now enforce this parking ban on ALL streets. Purportedly there is a problem in beach communities with non-residents living for long periods of time in rvs parked in residential neighborhoods, but this ordinance applies to residents who need to park in front of their own homes. Yes, for a fee a resident may get a permit for overnight parking a limited number of days a year.
I believe it is important for the rv community to fight such bans. Boycotting vacation areas such as San Diego is a way to send a message to these municipalities. Note that "oversized" is misleading. My Sunseeker 2300 is far shorter than 27' but it is more that 7' tall. So even class C's of any length are included.

And between 2am-6am.

That's the way I interpret it.

I've absolutely NO plans to visit San Diego, but it has nothing to do with this law.

FTR I *agree* with it.....totally. RVs should not be parked inside 50' ft of an intersection or alley. Why? vision obstruction

My only disagreement is that the law should be 24/7.

It is 24/7. There are two restrictions with this sign
#1 - No parking of described vehicles on street from 2am-6am
#2 - No parking of the described vehicles listed within 50 ft of an intersection/alley

The ban is for OVERNIGHT parking. ALL rv's are included. I first thought smaller ones might be exempt, but that is just in the definition of "oversize". RV is a separate category. The distance from intersections, driveways, is not relevant. The issue is overnight street parking, even in front of your own home without paying. Why should rv owners be treated differently from other vehicle owners?

Because "other vehicle owners'" vehicles aren't so large that they block visibility at intersections and/or alleys?

If I'm in an alley and trying to pull out in to traffic, I certainly don't want a motor home or 5er/bumper pull blocking my view of oncoming traffic.

DaGrinch, I mean 24/7 as in not just 2am-6am. the 2-6 makes no sense to me, as that is the time when traffic would be lightest.

If you go to the mentioned website, the details are clearly explained. The new law is aimed at stopping people from camping on the streets of the city, and preventing the blocking of intersections/signs. Visiters can still park during the day as long as they are not blocking intersections/signs. Residents can get up to 72 nightly permits per year (max of 3 consecutive nights) for $1.25 each to park within their own block. I think this is a reasonable law...other than the residents having to pay for the permits.

I agree with the ban. I would never park my rv on the street anyway
