Breaker trips when battery is on and we plug in .

Has anyone else had this issue? When the battery disconnect is in the on position and we plug the 30 amp plug in the breaker trips. I have been turning the battery disconnect off then plugging in and it doesn't seem to trip.

Which breaker is tripping?

Is it a GFCI breaker?

Once plugged in, does it trip if you turn the disconnect on?

It is the one for the converter, after it trips lights are dim assuming running battery alone. So far when I turn it off then plug in then turn it back on it hasn't tripped

It sounds like you might have a bad battery.
The load of a shorted cell or bad battery might cause the converter to trip do
to the inrush of current as it starts trying to charge the battery(s).

Suggest you have battery checked for proper level of electrolite as well as
giving it a complete charge and then do a load test on it.

My lights do NOT dim when I switch off shore power. Yours shouldn't either.

X2 everything Dan said above!

Most auto part stores will load test a battery for you.

X3 Converter is trying to charge a dead or shorted battery ( looks like a short to converter). Take battery out. and have it tested at an auto parts store.

My 2014 3100 Sunseeker will occasionally trip the converter breaker. There isn't any set pattern, it just trips randomly. The batteries have been tested to be good and there is no dimming of lights when just running on batteries and the battery power will stay at full or 2/3 for a really long time. I did try to isolate the slide out by only running the slide on battery power (thinking the extra power to operate the slide was tripping the breaker), but that did not seem to have any bearing on the problem. Slide worked fine and then I would plug in and breaker would stay on. It doesn't happen very often, but it would be nice to have it corrected. I'm having to assume that the converter is asking the circuit breaker for too much power when it trips. I guess it could be a weak breaker or a defective converter. Don't know....

Replace the cheap FR breaker with a Cutler Hammer or Eaton. The ones that come in rv's are the cheapest ones built.

That is what happens when outfits go with "low bid". They may have a good system but not necessary made with the best material.

Back to the OP problem, yes, check the battery.

He said things work fine if he disconnects the battery before plugging the cord in. When he connects the battery back up nothing trips, things work fine so that can't be the problem.

Sounds like a battery problem causing a heavy load on the converter when it is turned on with the battery hooked up. My question then becomes, why doesn't the breaker trip when he hooks the battery back up? If being caused by the battery when it was hooked back up the converter would see the same load, right? Could it be the 12 volt charger side of the converter is bad? The OP needs to check the chargers output as well as the battery/batteries.

Where is the best place to purchase these? Are the breakers in Sunseekers a standard size? Thanks.

Good question, Jim. I was thinking the same thing.

Home Depot or Lowe's. Take the breaker with you to compare so you get the right one. They are normally standard size.

As for why it doesn't trip when he closes the disconnect. It's because the converter is powered up and the capacitors are charged, so it doesn't draw as much current when the battery is reconnected to the system as it does on an initial start when the converter is charging the caps and supplying a lot of current to the battery.

Sounds feasible to me. I think the OP's problem will be over with a new battery(s). I'm hoping mine will be over with a new breaker.
