Have you checked the battery cables for corrosion? Remove all the cables including the ones at the power distribution panel and clean the contact areas.

Sometimes the connections will look okay in place but there is corrosion in the contact area. Sometimes the voltage is okay with little or no current, but corrosion will prevent normal current flow.

Geri... It was indeed the converter. Not a cheap answer but secure now.

We found house batteries dead even though we plug it in periodically. The problem was a dead converter. A trip to the fixer fixed it (by replacing it); a few screws, four wires, and almost $500 later, it was fixed. eBay had the converter for $160 and I would judge installation time at something under a half hour. RV man said likely cause is letting the house batteries get too low before charging yielding to high a current surge. Converter has fuzes that hadn't blown.
