Cabover Bunks

Hi. While our 2900 is being built, does anyone have any ideas or photos to share on how to secure a rail or something similar to keep the kiddos from rolling out of the overhead bunk? Recently, we saw new Coachmen units had a seatbelt and cargo net secured to the ceiling..Would be great for the sun seekers, but have never seen them sold anywhere. Any ideas? Thanks!

We don't like those little cargo nets...I'd be afraid a kid would get wrapped up in one in the event someone needed to get out quickly.

Good point but I'd still rather have them. I considered a coachman because of them (plus more longer beds and bigger showers). To me there is a greater chance of a kid rolling out of the cabover than something like a fire that requires a quick exit. Plus could manufacture one with an escape hole by the ladder. Because of this we put one kid in the cabover and the second kid on the couch. By the way I would have guessed that if the coachman division was ok with them the Sunseeker division would be too - must be totally separate businesses - thought all the C's were under the same area.

Coachmen & Sunseeker are completely separate.

I wonder what we did to keep kids in the cab-over for the last 40 years?

I know a few people have used the "bed rail's" that go between mattresses but bolt them to the bottom of the flip-over. I'd think an even easier solution is to use something like this...

I had never seen anything like that before but love it. Looks a lot easier than trying to figure out how to attach a rail or net. Thanks!

A rail is actually pretty easy to make. I tried the foam piece and the kid still fell out. I will try to get you some pictures of mine. I made it out if PVC pipe and the legs just slide under the cushions, no need for fastening it in any way. It folds up and can be stored right under the cushions when not in use.

I've seen the foam bumpers before, was wondering if they worked well. Guess not! Looking forward to seeing the pics of the rail...I guess another option is going to a coachmen dealer and ordering the net/ buckles. Should be some framing up there to secure it to..I'll have to talk to my dealer. I bet the PVC route would be way cheaper!

We did the slide under the mattress outfit on our last trailer. Worked well. Used all 1/2's and 1/4's, stained and poly to match the camper. Looked factory. Hadn't thought of anything yet for the MH. Daughter is the only one who sleeps up there for now, and she moves all the way to the front.

Funny thing is we try to keep them up there for safety. My child even at 4 manages to get out of that bunk, without a ladder. To try and prevent this at all times of the night, I removed the ladder before she went to sleep hoping she'd catch the hint. She knew she'd have to holler at us to get down. She still got down using the dinnette back as a ladder, and one time just jumping off onto the sofa, and her brother who sleeps on the sofa. So, once again, rude awakening of her crawling in the bed at crazy hours. Where there's a will, there's a way.

Reminds me, we used a fat pool noodle when the kids were small and used the cabover. That worked well and we could easily fold it up when driving.
