Counter top - what is it?

Anybody know what they're putting in the Sunseeker as far as counter tops? The Forester shows solid surface galley, but the counter is missing in the Sunseeker feature list. I know the one I'm about to buy is not formica, it's definitely solid surface.

Is there some difference in the counter material between the two? Or is it the same thing, just highlighted in the Forester to help bump the price?

Ours is solid no laminate. Sunseeker 3050s 2017

Or did you mean your's is solid not Formica (laminate)?

The counter we have is like one solid piece. A laminated counter is a sheet of laminate glued to a composite wood base. The problem with laminates is over time the glue loses adhesion. And I think it might be more susceptible to heat because I've seen counters where the laminate seperated and bubbled.

If I remember correctly the solid surface countertop in our 5th wheel is Corian, it's a composite of different materials.

Ok so we have the same thing. I bet its the same one that's in the Forester - it just doesn't make the bullet list.

Aside from the tablet control center, skirt paint, fiberglass running boards, and cedar closet I haven't found anything different between the two builds. I assumed the counter would be one since its bulleted on the Forester brochure but not the Sunseeker, but I guess I was wrong.

There's a lot you can do afterwards if you chose to.

We're going to change out a lot of the plastic plumbing fixtures like faucets and sinks. I already swapped out the shower head to get a stronger spray. One idea I really like is using a composting toilet and using the black water tank for gray water, doubling the gray water capacity.

I'd like to hear more. Are you talking about a composting toilet within the trailer?

Yes. I saw one called Nature's Head. Here's a link https://natureshead.net

You seal up the hole from the old toilet and put this one in it's place. It does require some simple work like venting but it takes a few hours to a day to install. The Wynns on YouTube have two good videos explaining it all that they made over 3 years ago. Look up "Gone with the Wynns" on YouTube and go back 3 years to see them. They put one into their class A.

We're going off the thread subject but I'll conclude with this. It isn't for everyone like almost any other thing. But if you are capable and want to boondock for long periods of time it certainly fits the bill. Or maybe you don't boondock but hate using those inconvenient totes so you won't have to move the RV to the dump station and then back to the site. It's all about what you want to do. Or maybe what you don't want to do as well like having to use all those chemicals and store them, or wait in line to dump, or have to use more water, etc.

Back to the counter tops.. we have the corian type material too and it is all scratched up. Has anyone attempted to polish it?

Yes. It was one of the two things I had done at FROG last year.

But basically all they did was use auto compounding paste and rubbed it in and then used an electric buffer..........over and over and over and over.......lots of labor.

But it isn't granite........and it IS going to be scratched.

You could try Gel-Gloss !!!

Corian usually gets sanded down smooth to get rid of the imperfections and then polished to get the original finish back.
We have had the ones in our home done and that is the method they used . We had contacted Corian and they gave us a list of approved company,s to do the refinishing.
They look like brand new.

my husband replaced the (miserable little beige plastic) bathroom water faucet in our 2016. He had to drill a middle hole for the new deluxe faucet.

It was shocking I tell you, he drilled out powdery thin layers of cardboard covered with plasticized paper.

I didn’t want a Forester with hard surface counter top, weight seems too much but this was a miracle for modern cardboard is all I can say. Certainly causes you to be verrry careful with kitchen and bathroom counters.
