Dometic Refrigerator - not cold enough

Anyone have issue with their unit keeping about 3/4 capacity if food storage cold on a hot day(s)?
On this trip I'm basically working out of coolers because I could nit get under like 45°. With All considered....
-Adjusted slider up to coldest setting.
-Had fridge border line freezing while empty in driveway before trip.
-Added a battery powered circulation fan this trip after not liking temps on last.
-all food loaded in was pre-chilled.
-kept food away from cooling fins
-was very mindful of open door time
- checked gasket for leaks
-made sure there was nothing (nests or whatever) from outside access panel.
Removed most food - only a few items in there and I can get to a "good" temp.
This trip has bee a scorcher! However, have a shady spot and inside of coach has been a steady 70°

2nd season with this and reefer worked much better last season.

Anyone else been here?

Has your thermistor slid down?
I put a dial thermistor in and now I have to adjust more because it is getting too cold.
Must find the sweet spot.

I put a snipthetip in mine for the very reason you describe. Mine will keep water in the door at 35 degrees now. Also measure water temperature and not just air temperature.

Last year our 8 cu. ft. Dometic would not stay at 40 in the 90+ weather we were having (but freezer was still freezing) so I replaced the thermistor with the Snip the Tip dial, swapped-out main board, installed some fans (in & out) & still saw no improvement. Rather than replace the cooling unit for $400+ I sent all mods back & installed a $300 11.8 cu. ft. Whirlpool residential from Sears Outlet, a $100 1200W inverter & $75 2nd 12V battery...

This is the SAME FRIDGE RV manufacturers CHARGE AN UPGRADE PRICE FOR if you have them install it vs. a $1400 Dometic, although the Whirlpool, inverter, etc. cost them less...

SHOULD HAVE DONE THIS SOONER! Fits in same space but holds 50% more - freezer is huge, fridge door holds a couple gallons of milk, cools from off to 40 in 1 hour, and I don't have to worry about how long my 3 kids stare at food w/door open. We camp for 2-3 weeks at-a-time & SAVE MONEY & TIME loading it up w/groceries from bigger discount stores vs. pricey shops close to campgrounds, etc.

KEPT IT SIMPLE... I installed inverter in front pass-through storage & ran separate 110V line where I can access it from outdoor fridge hatch. When I want to use the inverter, I just manually unplug the fridge from shore power & move to inverter power outlet. I also installed a couple inverter powered outlets elsewhere in the TT which allow me to charge laptops, run printer, etc. off of inverter.

Fridge lasts about 2 days off of (2) 12V batteries but I typically charge w/quiet generator each day. I also like being able to turn-off our propane on the road - just feels safer & don't have to worry about pulling-over before tunnels....

Before next camping season I plan to upgrade my batteries to (2) 6V Golf Cart ones so I can also power my outdoor fridge trekking down the road...

Thanks for the replies. Yeah today it 90° and humid . Fridge basically empty and it's between 45-50 all day while in shore power. I've checked and rechecked everything. Gonna make it a item on a warranty punch list I've running now but it sounds like some of these mods will be inevitable.. need more info on this snip tip, please. Thanks again for all the info

If it's still under warranty have the dealer replace it, DON'T cut the Thermistor to do the Snip the Tip thing, it will void your warranty... Don't settle... Get them to fix it... It's a $1400+ item that doesn't work & it typically has to go out a window because its too big to fit through a door... It took my DW & 3 boys' help to move old one out & new one in - through a rather high window when we're on the ground...

EDIT: I installed a 2000W inverter, not 1200...

I LOVE our larger Whirlpool residential but we bought our TT used, and camped for 3 seasons before the Dometic started having issues... I think I cooked it when we parked on a steep hill in the Smokies to eat lunch... The Whirlpool doesn't care if it's not 100% level & only costs $300 to replace should I do something to kill this one... It also accepts an icemaker but I didn't mess w/running lines plus we need the extra freezer space...

Not before (maybe 2/3) and almost empty now with exact same performance. Food is not the issue.

Does it run any cooler on propane? Ours does.

A little bit but not much. From warm it does get to the insufficient temp faster though.

Does a fuller freezer help performance?
We really never fill it up- usually just leftover ice or ice cream.

I certainly think it helps any freezer/fridge,,, I know it will make your home fridge/freezer run less & use less energy if it is as full as possible !!!
Just my opinion,,, maybe someone else will chime in,,, or you could ask your Power Co ???

Ding-dong! You are correct. The fuller the better as long as air flow over the fins is maintained.

This thread is a year old but I'd also like to replace my tip....not happy with the temp inside the fridge.

On the Fix-the-tip website, it says Disconnect the refrigerator controller board.

But it doesn't say where it's located or how to access it. (They have a pic of a black box cover.)

Has anybody done this and does it work? (I'll check my Dometic model today to ensure I order the right part.)
