Dump valve replacement on Sunseekers

One or both of my dump valves is leaking on my 2250.

What can I expect to pay to have them replaced at the dealer or at an independent shop? I prefer to have the work done now before freezing weather sets in.

Thanks in advance,

Bobby

Betcha its just an adjustment at the valve where the cable connects to the valve, two allen screws loosened up, slide the valve closed, reset the screws to the cable handle and wala...!!!!

Actually, I may have rods and not cables but there may still be an adjustment.

I had to take mine apart and clean debris that was keeping from closing all the way. Far easier is to add another valve that is made to go on your sewer outlet between your tank and sewer hose. Just seach Valterra T58 valve.

I like the Valterra valve solution but I am concerned it will stick out beyond the side of the RV.

I couldn't say if a Valterra would stick out too far on your camper. It is about 4 inches thick I believe. Otherwise you could try some serious flushing to dislodge whatever might be stuck if that is the reason it won't close. Otherwise you may have to open up the bottom for a better look. The valves themselves are easy to take apart but getting to it might be hard. Maybe a Sunseeker owner will chime in as to the difficulty of repairing a valve.

I don't know about a 2250, but my 3100SS is easy to change either valve. Just make sure tanks are fully drained. I would drive left rear wheels onto some blocks to tilt tanks a little away from opening. 2 different size valves. Had a problem with my gray draining and this is what I did.

For what the Valterra costs it is worth taking a chance on it. It will be close to the edge but the generator exhaust pipe sticks out further.
Thanks.

Thanks. I am not able to get under the RV to do even simple chores due to some physical limitations from injuries.

Can you see the valves or are they buried in the under belly?

doc73,

I can't see the black valve. The grey is more accessible. My problem is that I got smashed in the head years ago and I have balance problems especially if I bend over or turn my head to either side. Then my brain gets all messed up and I can't function normally. (Not complaining).

The Valterra may be a good temporary solution. I really like my 2250 but we have been thinking about something a little larger so I don't want to spend too much on repairs at this time. Especially when I am wasting time and money with a dealership in Chester County that provides inconsistent service for $110 per hour.

I am planning on visiting Media Camping to see what their hourly rate is.

I was not trying to put you on the spot or challenge your ability to get to the valves, just curious if they could be seen. My parents have a Sunseeker and I could not remember their setup. My guess the $110 is from Stolzfus? Stinks when they have something / ability that we need. Hopefully Media Camper is more reasonable, but it sounds like the end valve is a better option if you are planning an upgrade.

I only took you message as being helpful and with good intentions.

You made me take a closer look today. The grey valve is very accessable but the blak valve is not visible to me. I don't know which valve is the leaky one but for a reasonable cost it would make sense to repair or replace both. In the interium I will get the Valterra and hope I don't snag it on something.

Stoltzfus has done some nice things for me but they have also failed too many times to diagnos and fix several items under their warranty. I have made too many trips to them for the same issues. Recently they charged me $55 to test my house battery and pronounced it fine. My doorknob has more volts in it.

I know my parents had issues with them "fixing" a slide topper. Had to go back three times because it was never right. Third times a charm I guess. The sad part is that is how many all seem to be.. It is a shame the industry is going to the pooper.

Is the liquid gray or brown? Usually the odor is enough to know what you got but the grey tank will be grey and more soapy looking.

The liquid is clear. We have not put anything but water into either tank since we bought this guy in August. No odor. The tanks should be empty now but the level meters indicate that fluid in them so I don't want any surprises when I remove the cap.

The rear end was a little higher than the front when I dumped the tanks. I guess that I can put something me water in one to see if it leaks and then the other one. I have been stuck at home all day because my road is closed from a truck leaking oil. Hopefully i can get the Valterra tomorrow.

We have a Sunseeker 2860 and we use the ValterraT58 as well. It does not stick out. It was very inexpensive from Amazon. It works very well! We've been using it for 1.5 yrs without any problems.
