Engine oil for Ford 2014 Sunseeker

Just wondering how many of you use synthetic oil. I'm due for my first oil change and would like to start out using synthetic. Thanks for all the great advice.

I was a mechanic for 17 years, I also have Mobil 1 in everything I own, from the diesel truck to the wifes van to my motorcycle, lawnmower, generator and weedeater.

Synthetic is pretty amazing, it's slipperier than conventional oil, thus more efficient, lubes better, doesn't break down as easily.

I'm a fan and I'm a cheapskate. You can extend your oil change interval also. Opinions vary, but a 50% increase is common.

If you are going to drive more than 15K per year go for the syn if not use dyno. You won't wear out the syn but you may time it out. Dyno(saur) oil has progressed so far over the years you will have little advantage unless you are racking up the hours. I agree that syn is a better oil but I don't agree that it is a better value unless the application is nearly continuous. I have some credentials in this area but do as you wish.

What does the manufacturer recommend? When I took my Chevy in for the first oil change, I was surprised that they said it had to be synthetic blend at a minimum. I went with full synthetic.

My brother is a retired engineer from Ford. He worked in oil systems for the last several years of his career. Has a patent on a true oil monitoring system (which Ford later sold to Mercedes instead of implementing it on their own vehicles). The chief advantage of synthetic oil is the smaller molecule size that lubricates better when the engine is cold. Once conventional oil warms up, it is just as good. But that critical time when the engine is still cold is when synthetic is best. He found that a blend was just as effective at that time as full synthetic. But the cost difference isn't that much, so I use full synthetic.

RvBill3 is right on, start up is when the most wear on the engine will happen.
Lets face these RV's will sit for weeks at a time, that's when you want the best protection, full synthetic.

I use Amsoil Syn in all my machines.
Most think it's to expensive, but in reality, it is cheaper than dino oil.
You get: increased gas mileage - longer engine life/less wear, better heat protection, Flows at -25 degrees, extends oil changes up to 15,000 miles rather than 3,000,. Check out the Amsoil web site & see for yourself.

I go with factory spec especially while under warranty.

I use Ford 5W20 syn-blend as recommended by Ford. I think that is pretty much their standard these days. With the RV, I own 3 Fords and use this on all 3.

The Ford V10 owners manual says to use 5W20. I went to the local Advance Auto parts store, he looked my engine up on the computer and it said to go with 5W30, especially if the RV is going to be run in hot weather. I opted for the Mobile 1 full synthetic 5W20. $10 cheaper for the 5 quart container at Wal-Mart than the car parts stores!

Mobile 1 5W20; (2) 5 quart jugs + Ford Motorcraft oil filter all from Wal-Mart.
I use what's left in the 2nd 5 quart jug in my wife's Honda Odyssey when it's due.

One of the perks of having a Ford gas rig instead of diesel... You only have to stock one weight of oil for all your vehicles in your household, you can buy larger sizes and save a little, and you can find all you need at your local Wal-Mart on a Sunday afternoon after church!

Ford E450, Mobil 1, 5W20, purchased from Costco when they have their $10 off per case sale.....which is about every third month. I normally will pick up 2-3 cases as two other vehicles use the same.
