Exterior trim won't stay in track

My trim that covers front cap seam and runs down front edge of unit keeps popping out at curve between top and unit. Anyone else have this issue? Can you just crazy glue it in? Click image for larger version

Mine does it too
I thought about adding some sheet metal screws (like the ones that actually fasten it on the ends but I am always weary of drilling any holes in the unit
I'll be watching for other opinions also

Seam material

When the seam material was installed, the installer stretched the material
when fitting it into the grooves. Now it has relaxed or shrunk back to the normal length before being stretched during installation. The material can be purchased at a RV store in a roll. You do not have to replace the whole
length of material, it can be pieced by removing one end for it to relax.
Do not stretch it to get the material back into the groove. You should actually push it against itself while putting the material back in. The pieced part can be inserted about 4" underneath the old material. I would cut the old material above the bend about 4" then start from this point with the new material.

If it is under warranty, have dealer replace the material. The material is really for cosmetic looks to cover screws.

Good luck.

Between the installer stretching it, and time making it want to "shrink", a lot of them do contract and pull out on the curve. Some folks put a screw in the curve to keep it in place, others use adhesives, how effective those "fixes" will be long term I don't know...

Just be glad you don't have full body paint, the mismatched paint lines really look bad! I'm going to replace our with black trim, with a lot of slack, if / when they start getting out of shape...

Same issue on my 14 Forester. During PDI they warmed up with heat gun and put back in. Of course it came back out during the cold and I need to fix again.

I have replaced the trim on both sides of my RV due to this same reason. A cheap, quick fix though. Your local RV dealer probably sells the trim.

Well, that is why I haven't replaced mine yet. Do have the full body paint and the stripes across the bottom include the trim piece [emoji33]

That trim shrinks and becomes brittle over time.
Stuff is cheap. 100 foot roll on Amazon is only a few bucks, and comes in different widths and colors. It's probably 1" width.
Info, I just checked Amazon. Cheapy stuff is 12-13 bucks for 100 feet. Good stuff, thicker material (what I use) is 27 bucks for 100 feet. Unless your dealer is close, your probably going to spend that much for gas for them to just replace a small section.
Cheaper to just buy a roll and keep it on hand. You will eventually use it up.

In 5 years I've replaced the trim on our Lexi's roof twice. Simple maintenance fix.

This happened to me as well. Took it in for warranty work and the dealer said it was very common. Their solution was to heat it to mold it back into place and then to put a screw in (white coloured head). The problem has not popped up again.

Yeah, mine did this too. But trim got torn right off the RV when high winds caught trim in the curve and pulled ... with in minutes it was gone. Thanks for Amazon info and other tips.

Let It Float

Just remove the screws at the bottom so that when it shrinks, it does not pull away from the corner. If you have full body paint, as I do, the colors will offset a bit. If that bothers you, then you will have to replace it with a solid color insert.

This was our first problem with our unit. The trim screw cover molding first came off at the corner. Then as we are traveling at about 50 mph the whole piece came out and was flopping around. We pulled over and removed the top and bottom screws and took it out. This unit was just over a year old. It really ticked us off.... ours is full body paint. We ended up repositioning the trim piece to fit. Of course the lines did not match. Within a month it had came out again at the corner. I really think the FBP makes it brittle. I have purchased a 50 ft roll of it in cream colored trim and will replace it. Thought of buying it in chrome but couldn't decide if I wanted the bling. Make sure you buy the made in USA trim. The other is not the same quality. I bought it on Ebay. Unit was less than a year old. It reminds me of the Ford Contour we bought put a dash cover on and within a year the padded dash was peeling away from the metal substructure. Ford eventually did a recall and replaced the dash.

Just go to Amazon and punch up "RV Insert Trim". All kinds of products will come up, all colors, lengths, widths.

Purchased mine thru Ebay from seller Brickyard industries. their store name is Brickyard automotive. What I describe as cream colored they call colonial white and they describe it as "white tanish beige". It is cream. I have the FBP scheme in the cream brown mix. I paid 17.95 for 100 feet I believe it is 19.95 right now. It is made in the USA and is UV protected. Hope this helps I always shop both Ebay and Amazon.

I took out the screw at the bottom that holds it in place...filled that screw hole with silicone...pushed the trim back in the track...new screw at the end after drilling small hole. The small deviation of the custom paint of little difference...unless you're anal about such things.

Yes, same here, I purchased a roll of the plastic trim and replaced it. I figured the stretched it when it was originally installed.
