Tell me about the tag reader. I didn't put the car trailer on it. I Delaware, didn't read and took picture of trailer tag. In the picture you could easily read toad tag which is registered. Shows how smart they are.

So at times it worked sporadically---when it did NOT work what would happen? How did you pay ?? Thanks

I think like some others said, they take a picture of your license plate and link you to your account. The problem was, it didn't seem to calculate the correct toll many times. We had several months on our credit card bill for around $75 every time we went through Ez pass, which was way more than it should have been.

That's probably because it might not pick up your entrance so they charged max toll.

You can in PA on our turnpike. I use the same transponder in 4 different vehicles that I have registered with EZ Pass. I just put it in whatever vehicle I'm driving and go.

In reality, you you can even use it in someone else's vehicle too. I've done it many times. The caveat, should it not read for any reason, they would send a bill to the registered owner of the vehicle (via a snapshot of their plate) and in PA they charge the total toll from one end to the other if it doesn't register enter and exit points.

At the entry toll booths, it registers the # of axles on approach. When towing my 5th wheel, it charges accordingly.

In PA, if your CGVW is over 15,000 pounds, you have to have a commercial EZ Pass account.

Some states have changed the way they bill EZ Pass. If they read the transponder you are charged one fee, If they need to do a look up you can be charged a higher fee. If you are towing a trailer, they read the transponder then sense the additional axles with no transponder and photo the tag if it is a registered trailer they charge it as additional axles to the transponder.

So if they don't send you something why doesn't everyone just drive thru. I for sure didn't intend not to pay but it worked that way I guess

This is how it works; the bureaucracy of Sunpass and EZ Pass don't "talk" to each other. So, sunpass just snaps lic plate numbers and bills to the address of the registrant l ike the other poster mentioned, they add an "administration" fee which probably ends up being more money in that pocket than bothering to link up with other regional transponder tax collecting agencies. H owever, you were able to beat them out of their tax, since they havn't billed you in this amount of time. One for the good guys, albeit next time you probably won't be so lucky.

I believe I read that by the end of 2016 all the EZ Pass type systems need to be compatible with each other by gov't mandate. Read this when we had been planing our trip to FL and was not sure if I wanted to bother with a Sun Pass.

I can also confirm one pass can be used for all vehicle's in PA as well. I have used it many times in my vehicles, work vehicles, even in a Bear Cat (armored vehicle).. It does not go through 6" of steel and bulletproof glass.. It was also not on my account. We got a bill and all I did was give them my EZ Pass account number and it was billed as a 2 axle vehicle without adding the vehicle.. The thing weights 25,000 lbs.. LOL

But yes, normally over the 15,000 you need a blue tag for commercial (in PA).

To take the transponder off you need to grab the plastic nuts behind the bumper and twist them off.
RE Mass charging. May be new policy. If in the market I suggest you check out different states. Some charge annual fee, some don't and some may charge a one time fee. Other than the fact that I do not pay a fee to Mass I have not kept up with the other states.

Is that 15000 both trailer and truck?
