The other thing I find interesting is you don't have to get EZpass in the state you live in.

EZ Pass is private, not attached to A state. My guess is the state buys in and then sets their own requirements. You can shop around and maybe save a few bucks. I do not know know but when I got my EZ Pass from PA it was $35 to cover tolls and a free transponder( No fees). I am on the same transponder now for over 10 years. Florida Sun Pass was $$ for just the pass PLUS money to pay for tolls...

I bought my EZ Pass at our local grocery store for $35.
No fees and got fuel perks on the total dollar amount of sale to boot.

I have family over in Williamstown and Absecon.
Yeah, its been a while since I got one... I was sold after it saved me from 2hrs of traffic in Dover one year. My parents did NOT have an EZpass and we did.. We were following each other until the 95 Dover toll. 2hrs!!!! Later they arrived home.

EzPass in NY supposedly charges more based on the height of the vehicle but I have my class A registered on their site and have been using it for years. BTW toll discounts sometime depend on the state of issue. NY discounts only apply to NY EZpass accounts.
Florida SunPass offers two versions. A sticker ($4.99) which even gives you the $4.99 back in tolls and a similar module to EZPass that costs something like $25.00. The only advantage of the $25.00 unit is that you can move it from car to car.

I use to work for penndot and they do a lot of studies on weights on road and the damage it does to the road. With some of the new rvs being as heavy or heavier than some dump trucks they are spreading the expense of deteriorating roads cost to the vehicles most responsible vehicles.

FWIW, ordered an EZ pass for my 3170DS, was concerned about the placement because of the overhang. Decided to hand hold to see if it would register, it didn't, but did on exiting. Checking my account showed entrance at the correct toll booth. Must have run my plate and cross referenced the EZ pass account. I hadn't registered the plate with EZ pass since we just picked it up at the dealer and had no idea of the plate number. Ended up mounting it at the bottom center of the windshield. Works fine in NY and Pa.

Our EZ Pass transponder is located near the bottom center of the windshield on our class C. it works fine in that location and does not interfere with visibility.
