If it gets missed, they send you a letter with a picture. You tell them what happened and you are charged what it would be if it worked. Most times if it does not work, it is just one booth.

My camper is 7774 lbs and truck is 6500 according to door sticker. 14272 lbs both together. If my trailer would have been 10,000 would I need a commercial since bothe truck and trailer would be over 15000?

Last time I brought my camper back fin Ohio it cost me a small fortune because I did not have easy pass. They charge cash payers more than easy pass holders. First time I know of were paying cash does not give you a discount.

Gross vehicle weight, not combination. My truck is 8000lbs let's say.. The registered weight is 10,000lbs.. So 10,000 is the GVWR not the scale weight of the truck.

Ez pass is cheaper because it is a lower cost, no 20/hr worker in a toll booth 24hrs a day, no medical insurance so need to heat or air conditioning of the 10 little shacks..

Here's what the FAQ section of PA EZ Pass website says about camper/trailer towing and weight class....

1.
I sometimes pull a camper or trailer with my vehicle. Can I still use my transponder?
Yes. On the Pennsylvania Turnpike, if the weight of the camper or trailer pushes you into a higher class of vehicle, the higher toll will be charged to your account.

2.
Can I use my transponder in my RV?
If you have an RV, with a gross vehicle weight over 15,000 pounds, you will need to open a commercial account. If you have an RV that has a gross vehicle weight of 15,000 pounds or less, you may add it to your personal E-ZPass account. Please be prepared with your weight, tires and axles when calling to add an RV to your account. You may require a separate transponder programmed for the specific weight class of the RV.

EDIT:
Also for the PA Turnpike website...

When a vehicle enters the Turnpike, it passes over a metal plate that contains a scale for measuring the weight of each axle and a treadle to count the number of axles.   The vehicle is classified by the sum of its axles' weights.   A Class 1 vehicle is a two-axle vehicle that weighs 7,000 pounds or less.   A Class 2 vehicle is a two-axle vehicle weighing 7,001 to 15,000 pounds.   A Class 3 vehicle is a three-axle vehicle weighing 15,000 pounds or less.   A passenger car is a Class 1 vehicle.   The higher the class of vehicle, the higher the toll paid.   The Commission uses a “light curtain” to detect the beginning and end of a vehicle in order to determine when the last axle has passed over the plate.1  When the vehicle passes the plate, it records the number of axles on the vehicle, the vehicle's class and the time, date and toll plaza where the vehicle entered.
When a vehicle exits the Turnpike, it crosses over another scale and treadle and passes through another light curtain.

Interesting in PA. In Jersey all I did was ask if I could add RV. They said "What is the tag number?" No break down like PA. Same when I added car trailer. I am at the limit for the number of vehicles I have registered.

Yeah, I do not really understand why they care. I get the semi's and buses and such but the RV's seem a bit much. I guess the only thing I can think is to get more revenue since I am sure the default charges for tolls is higher on commercial v personal accounts.
