Fuel octane

Some areas do not have 87%. When confronted with this would I be better off with 86% or 88%?

I use 92 in my lawnmower and it works fine. Burns cleaner. What are you using the fuel in? I would say 88.

I would always go to the next higher octane level. IMHO, I just don't trust anything lower than 87.

86 is the minimum for my Ford, but when only 85/86 (CO, UT, WY etc) is available as regular I put in the midgrade.

What would happen if you put 20 gallon of 86 octane and 20 gallon of 88 octane?

I gassed up and didn't notice what it was.. After about 50 miles the power sucked, engine sounded like crap with the TT behind.. We checked the receipt and it was 86 octane... That was the last time that I gassed up at that chain.. Now it's mid-grade at a minimum...
