Gap between rear slide on a 3170ds
Hi all,
I have a relatively large gap between the rear slide and the motorhome wall when the slide is pulled in. It is big enough for me to fit my fingertips in it. However the front slide is totally flush with the motorhome when pulled in. Is this normal to have space between a slide and the motorhome? I have attached a picture of what I am talking about. Thanks

Not normal. This slide needs an adjustment and or a repair.

That's strange...when I took it to the dealer for other repairs I pointed it out to him out of curiosity and he said that's normal. I guess I'll have to take it back.

Does anyone know if there is a way to manually tighten the rear slide on a 3170? I know you can on the front slide but I wanted to see if tightening the rear slide would close the gap.

My 3170 does this some times and I have found that using the slide out seal conditioner helps. You need to go to lippert components web site and watch the video on the schwintec slide system then you will understand your slide better. there is an adjustment but it is an electrical one regulating how much power you are sending to the motors.

Normal.
Those Schwintec slides have separate motors for each side and although linked they stop when they meet resistance. They tend to cut off at slightly different times based on resistance of each side.
As long as the bulb seal, seals completely there should be nothing to worry about. If that gap gets bigger, then you might want to have it looked at.
The old "above floor slides" were ram driven (in the bottom middle), so the bottom was tight, the top, not as much but you rarely saw it.

At first from looking at your picture I thought the gap looked large too. However, I went out and looked at my 3170DS rear slide and I too can just slide my finger tips in their but only about an inch in until you get to the rubber gasket. Mines always been this way and is fine.

Same here. My front slide pulls in tight and clicks when it can not move any more. The rear just stops. Is that normal ? The front clicking?

The front slide clicking is normal...mine does that too. It's a different kind of slide than the rear slide. I pull my front slide in until I hear it start to click.

After sending pic to factory and dealer, no one could give reason for cause, the bottom five screws stripped out of the wall, this happened within three months of ownership. The repair was to install new screws inbetween stripped out ones, so far holding.......

Use rivets.
Th screws were the recommend installation method from Lippert. On the big slides, we prefer to add some big rivets. (lippert says we don't need it, your picture says better safe than sorry)

I'll have to check with production on that one. Currently at 30,000 feet heading to Denver RV show.

1/4" expandable rivet. Not sure what they are running them on, but again Lippert says they are unnecessary. So just an added precaution.

Thanks for the info on rivets ( will have to borrow air rivet gun from work to pull in a 1/4 inch rivet) I will replace the screws that dealer didn't. Cheers
