Gas cap for Ford E450

We have a 2018 Sunseeker 3010DS. We relaxed the factory gas cap with a locking one from local Canadian Tire. BAD IDEA. Result was a bunch of error codes and console alerts and some cost in getting a mechanic to check them out and reset. Seems that the Ford system is a closed one.

Locking cap I got plays nice with system. That's since I got it. Either Ford or Rockauto.

Seems that the Ford system is a closed one and cannot tolerate a gas cap that vents, so be careful that you use a gas cap that is suitable. The mechanic was not sure that Ford even had a locking gas cap.

Do you have a Ford part number? May need to remind our dealership that they hag one!

I got a locking gas cap for my 2016 E450 Forester and it works great, no error codes and the lariat fits it too. I got it at Parts Geek (partsgeek.com) it's a Gates 31842Y for $12.73.

I got a locking gas cap from NAPA. I think they didn't list it for the Ford E450, but the one for other Ford trucks fit fine. Never had a fault code.

Modern gas tanks are sealed and pressurized. If you get the old style it won't work. You will want to make sure it works with the newer systems.

These are not old style. They would not fit or work. Besides they would throw a computer code.

On our 2014 2500TS Sun Seeker we bought a locking gas cap from Canadian Tire and it works ok. Main reason was to protect the 55 gallons of fuel in the tank.
Luckily no faults and it works fine.
Must have been lucky
