Ground Fault

We've recently returned from an extended trip. Washed and waxed the RV and put it into the garage. Plugged it into the normal ac plug (110v 15a) same as we'd always done before, but the ground fault circuit popped, even with the dc secured in the RV (2860) and no ac machines on (other than microwave clock). It continues to do the same when moved to another power source. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Did you check your plug ends and female socket on your rig? Could be debris, excessive oxidation or moisture causing a short, or just creating too much resistance. If everything in your rig is turned off then it shouldn't be pulling any more than just static juice along the line. Any cracks along the cord?

Lastly, what else is on that 15amp circuit, and are you sure your water heaters electric is off? Hope it's not empty and still on or it's probably the twisted remains of your electric element shorting.

Dang. Did you burn out the heating element or is the heater just bad?

Glad it was your WH. Well not glad you were having a problem, but after checking the panel and all exterior and easy access areas, then you have to start doing continuity tests on all the circuits.... THAT ain't fun.

Smile Fixed.....i hope

$11 later (wrench and element) and it hopefully is now a learning experience. Haven't put power on the water heater yet because its just too hot here to fool with, but the old element had the center burned out, and the new element is in the circuit with the electrical HW switch off - the same status as existed when I had the circuit problem, and now it doesn't fault. So thanks all for the help.
