GVW Vs Payload 3100SS

We weighed our 2010 3100 SS today. Front axle 4580 Rear axle 13680. We had our standard gear inside, full fuel and driver. This means we could add 820 lbs of clothes and food & stuff.
What about towing our CRV 3400 lbs?

If you tow it 4 wheels down, there is no tongue weight...so the 5000lbs hitch will have no problem towing that. If you tow it on a trailer you just have to figure out how much tongue weight there is. That comes off your 14,500 Gross Vehicle Weight Rating.

I'm not telling anybody to do something they aren't comfortable doing, i completely understand people that live and die by the numbers on the sticker, but those final numbers come from a guy behind a desk that has probably never towed anything in his life. He is just good at preventing lawsuits. Going by the numbers my Sunseeker on a E450 chassis is overloaded already just sitting there with our stuff in it. Never mind that I hook a 16 foot enclosed trailer behind it that weighs 5500 pounds loaded, with about 850 or more pounds of tongue weight. I have never had a problem and I am 100% certain I will never have a problem with it. Our trailer never gets unhooked and we use it every weekend from March to November this way, usually anywhere from 300 to 2000 mile trips. Even with all that the thing still sits 3 inches high in the rear! I wouldn't trade my Sunseeker for anything! It's a beast!

In my opinion, your good no matter which way you haul it.

I agree the truck can handle more than rated. However at least in my state and it seems to be coming in others, the state police are using portable scales to check RVs and will fine violators heavily. Also if you have the misfortune of getting into an accident and someone was killed or severely injured when over loaded, you could be in deep trouble.

The accident thing I'm not worried about, if I killed somebody in an accident that was my fault I would be in trouble wether I was overloaded or not.

I was worried about getting pulled over by the state patrol, but in my state they don't bother rv's and I did get pulled over in 2 other states and both times they just joked around and told me to try and load different! The patrol officer in Missouri ask if I could unload one of the dirt bikes so he could ride it.

It is what it is, I told my buddy on the force that I guess if they have time to worry about my 1000 extra pounds at least I know there isn't any violent crimes being committed at that time!

Is there a Gross Combined Weight Rating on the Sunseeker?

Bob, what did you mean when you said the GVWR of the Sunseeker was 14,500 pounds?

His axles are already carrying 18,260 pounds...

Where is the "820 lbs of clothes and food & stuff" coming from?

Is his GVWR 19,000 pounds or 14,500?

UVW 11900
GVWR 14500
GCVWR 22000

That means the rear axle is darn near the GVWR!

That was why I was blown away.

No one mentioned (except Bob in an off hand way) that he is 3760 pounds over gross as he sits. (a bit more than the "1000" motorcross was sayin).

Another 820 pounds in the camper would put him 4580 overloaded.

Then add the CRV at 3400 pounds and he would be over GCWR (22000) by 480 pounds (22480 - 22000)

Sorry, I just threw that number out there. I'm going to try and weigh mine again this weekend and see where I'm at now, it's been awhile. That's why I was saying "according to the so called" numbers, mine is overloaded just sitting there.

Just remember that a frame stress crack is a "show stopper" in a motor home.

Lol herk, shooting my eye out is a whole different thread! Have you rode in a class c lately? The pot holes in the roads these days are enough to cause stress cracks!

I have been seriously thinking about going to a toy hauler just so I don't have to listen to the abuse my RV is taking going down the road!

I will try to get some numbers and post them up this weekend.
