Help-Sunseeker 3100 Battery Compartment

I have a 2004 Sunseeker 3100SS and the battery compartment was designed very poorly. I was interested to see how other owners of the Sunseeker models have their battery compartment setup and get some ideas about how to make changes.

First, the battery compartment door is small. The picture below is old and I have since upgraded to a couple Interstate 6v batteries (they barely fit through the opening and have to be tipped to fit through).

Second, the compartment isn't protected from the elements and road dirt/grit cover everything and require frequent cleaning. You can't see from the picture but the rear tires are about two feet in front of the battery compartment.

Any advice/pictures would be greatly appreciated.

Mine is under the coach step. Easier to remove since all you have to do is unscrew the top part of the step. I have the 2011 sunseeker
