How do I use the heat pump on a 3170ds?

Hi all, getting ready to go on a road trip down to Florida next week. It is still somewhat cold here in the northeast and we will be traveling through some cold weather. I would like to use the heatpump instead of propane for heat while staying the night at campgrounds, but i cannot figure out how to operate it. I've turned it on before and adjusted the temperature, but it never seems to get warm. Am i doing something wrong? And also, how would i keep the fresh water and pipes from getting too cold while driving? Can i turn on the Arctic Pack for this? Thanks!

On our 2011 Sunseeker 3100, the heat pump will go into defrost mode when the outside temperature drops below 40 F. It runs in defrost for a certain number of minutes, putting out no heat, then runs putting out heat for a certain number of minutes. The outside temperature sensor is mounted on the unit. Below 30 F our Dometic thermostat stops the heat pump and runs the furnace, even if the thermostat is set for heat pump. Your thermostat may work differently.

We are also heading south from New England next week in our 3170. January of 2014 we camped in Virginia in 20 degree temps. Ran furnace with propane, the holding tanks are heat ducted from furnace. Had no problems just can't hook up to water. Enjoy and safe travels!!

I have a 2013 Sunseeker 3010 it has a Dometic thermostat (you can download the manual at dometicusa.com . To use the heatpump (which is an option) push the heat pump button and it takes about a minute or two to get heat out of the AC vents. I've used mine at 30-35 degrees and it warms up pretty quick.

To answer one of the original poster's questions, the Arctic Pack does not heat the water pipes, pump, filter, or sewer pipes. It only heats the grey and black tanks.
