If you're talking about the portable kind it might not be worth it if you are in a warmer climate. We live in Texas so when we pull in to a campsite in the summer it takes a while to cool the rig down. The cooler the rig gets, the better the ice.

Is the storage area vented ?

You can probably do it, but an ice maker is going to generate lots of heat. And the hotter the storage bay the harder it will have to work.

Got ice

What I have is an edgestar 25 1/4 high ice machine. Basically a freezer with a ice making domafloger-thingee in it. It makes a full bin of ice over night like any other frig., but does not melt. It has a front kick plate vent made for under the counter install. I got water and power, why not a blended beverage over a long weekend....

I wonder what size the door opening is (as I am STILL WAITING FOR A DELV DATE).

I've read of lots of people using the portable kind. They run it and then bag the ice for the freezer. We keep meaning to get one, just haven't. My wife likes her water icy-cold with lots of ice.

I went with EdgeStar 12 Lbs. Built-In Ice Maker so I did not have to empty or rebag. Can turn the ice off and use it as a freezer, got it from overstock.

If it will fit in the door then I would think you would be ok. I would probably want to leave the storage door propped open just a bit to make sure ventilation is not an issue. Something to think about...How easy is it to empty all the water from the unit when not in use. If you're a full timer it might not be an issue. We drain the water from our portable unit after each use. If you also have to drain yours after each use, that might turn into a chore but could be worth it in the long run when you're sipping on that blended beverage.

I'm gonna look for that one! I like that plan. :-)
