Install PD9260 Converter Near Batteries - 2011 Sunseeker 2860
I am starting a project to upgrade to 2 6 volt GC batteries, install a new PD9260 converter close to them, and install a Victron battery monitor. The batteries will be in the entry step and the converter will be in the outside compartment next to the entry. My plan is to leave the existing converter in place unplugged from 120v.
Right now most everything is stock. Please see the diagram picture of the overall connection. It's for a 2300 but mine is very similar. And a big Thanks to Snowman9000 for all the work making it.
The WFCO converter and WFCO 8930 distribution panel are located under the rear bed and there is a 12 volt battery in the entry step. I have put the existing converter on it's own 20amp circuit and have run 12-2 Romex to the compartment and put in an outlet. I have also raised the entry step to account for the extra height of the 6 volt batteries.
I plan to install the Victron shunt in the battery box and run the new converter NEG wire to one side of the shunt. Also on the same side of the shunt, the existing NEG wire that goes to the box and then to frame ground will be attached.
I plan to install a 4 post POS distribution bar in the box and attach the POS converter wire, the existing POS wire to the battery and the existing POS wire that goes to the BCC connection.
For the old, unplugged converter, is there a need to remove the wires that go to the distribution panel and cap them off. Or is unplugging the converter enough?
Do any wiring changes need to be made in the distribution panel? The picture of the diagram of the WF-8930 matches how the converter is currently wired.
I have not been able to find any fuse or circuit breaker on the POS wire from the distribution panel to the existing battery. I don't see a fuse in the BCC. Any suggestions on fusing, breakers, etc. would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for bearing with me, and thanks for all you help. I know my knowledge is very limited. I feel that even if I can't do this job and need to have it done for me, I will at least have some understanding of the way things work if I run into problems in the future.
