Inverter?

Bought a new 2014 Sunseeker 2860DS last year and found out it didn't have an inverter. First coach in 35 years that didn't have one for me! The brochures are not clear. Do these not come with inverters, or did they forget mine? Also, where is the electric panel? Finally found the coach batteries under the step but cannot find the electric panel. Any ideas? Gracias!

i don't know of any manufacturer that has inverters standardard, in Class C rigs, except maybe for the Super C models. or some other high end Class Cs.

many mix up inverters for converters. ALL RVs have CONverters but few have INverters.
usually only some Class A's have inverters standard.

by the way, welcome to FRF, from the south of you.

I have a small grey panel to left of steps with the button for inverter, powers the plug on cab over bunk for the tv. Otherwise may not have one.

I ha e a 2014 2860ds as well and it sounds like yours is different. Mine has fuse box left of steps with a single thumb knob holding door in place.

My fuse box is left of steps too but has 2 knobs. We found the breaker box at foot of the bed in a little door box. Thanks!

My fuse box and breaker panel are in the same location, mine is a 2011. Should have clarified I have a small grey panel above fuse box next to awning light switch and battery disconnect for my inverter.

Trying to figure out if I need to have an inverter installed on the new coach. We don't dry camp a lot, but do a few nights each year with friends. When we picked it up from the dealer (Paulsbo RV) they figured out that there was a refer out in the outside entertainment center that was electric only, but no inverter. So they installed a little inverter to run the refer. Still trying to decide if we need one for everything else.

I dry camp 90% of the time since I got mine in 2012. Unless there are appliances like the TV a laptop etc that need to be plugged in or charged that you can't live without, I'd say you'll be fine. Maybe just buy another portable one in case you need to power something temporarily. They do draw a lot of power though when boondocking.

WillP,

Can you buy a portable inverter? If so, how do you drive something (TV) with a portable unit when the batteries are under the steps?

I'm speaking of the kind you just plug into a cigarette 12v outlet, my unit has couple in the coach by the bed and dinette. As far as a TV, another option is buying a flat screen that's ac/dc powered then you wouldn't need an inverter for it. See links below for examples.

TV that's dc powered (cig outlet)

Pure sine inverter safe for electronics (uses cig outlet), but buy size based on what you'll use it for.

We have 4 tvs on our unit and they all run on 12v. We are dry campers most of the time also. If we have to run microwave or toaster, etc. we just fire up the generator for the short time we use those appliances.

So you must not have a DirecTV or Dish receiver for your tv's? Just use the local antenna?

Correct. Thinking about getting satellite down the road. We were going to power the receiver off a portable inverter that we have had for years that plugs into a 12 volt socket. As far as a dish, haven't decided which way to go yet. I presume the stationary dishes don't need 110 volts? Just takes longer to setup.

We have the Winegard Traveler DTV dish and it is great. Looks like I would have to add a 12V inverter to the cabinet to run the Vizio HD TV, the Winegard dish and the DTV receiver. Looks like a 300W inverter would be adequate if we didn't turn on the TV and the receiver while running the motors searching for the sat. Anyone have any experience on this?
