Keeping Radio on while parked

Magnadyne M4 LCD.

It was rainy the other day, so we were playing board games and listening to Spotify via Bluetooth, but the radio is powered by the motor battery and shuts off every 10-min or so.

Is there a trick, special switch or something so it could stay on.

Failing that, has anyone re-wired the radio so it runs from the coach batteries?

We were plugged in, so I wasn't too worried about batteries for a couple of hours.

Most of that stuff is adjustable.... Google the chassis and I bet you can do it without flashing the prom.

On page 55 it shows the red wire from the Magnadyne connects to “12 volt Ignition”; the yellow wire to “12 volt constant”. If you don’t want the radio to turn off with the vehicle, you should be able to accomplish this by disconnecting the “ignition” supply to the red wire and connecting both the red and yellow radio wires to the “constant” supply. Be aware - if you do this and don’t turn the radio off, it will eventually run down the vehicle battery (or whatever battery supplies the “constant” wire - you could use a wire from the house battery).

My assumption was the chassis is the power source controlling the radio feed. A couple vehicles I have had the radio turns itself off after a bit. Some go off when you open the dirivers door...etc. I thought maybe there was a program to change that. Good luck with your quest

Thanks for the replies. Seems odd on a Motorhome that the radio is set to switch-off when it's also the entertainment center, so I was hoping there was some switch to override this.


I'll probably pull it and jumper the wire at the back, I don't think we'll be doing this a lot, so I'm not too worried about draining the battery.


I'll have to try playing DVD's and see if that switches off after 10min also, that will be silly

May I suggest a simple On-Off-On Rocker or Toggle switch.
That way you can choose which battery your Radio runs off of.

My 2017 Sunseeker has a Jensen entertainment set in the coach that runs on the coach battery. It is Bluetooth enabled and has all the features and also is the DVD player for the TV.

Is the only player you have in the dash board?

The Georgetowns have a switch on the dash that will keep the dash radio powered. Would be easy to wire the same on yours.

Be careful jumpering the two 12 volts together - you don’t want to inadvertantly power something from the radio 12 volt “constant” line. As I stated above, be sure to disconnect the 12 volt “ignition” line first, before connecting the radio side of the 12 volt wires together.

My dash radio is powered by the coach batteries.
Probably because there is no additional coach radio.
Makes it pretty easy. I run it all the time.
When you want to watch a DVD though- you have to put it in the dash radio.
