Leak?

Need some assistance. I was dewinterizing my 2010/2300 and had the city water hookup and heard gushing water (water tank was closed). I went to the city connection and water was pouring out in the storage compartment (the compartment on driver side). I shut off water and the water stopped pouring out. I went inside the camper and found that the water filter container was cracked (looks like the bottom was blown off the container!). I replaced the canister. I also unscrewed the city water connector and it was still connected. I also unscrewed black box in the storage compartment (water was in this and it looked like it was under the shower). After all this I rehooked the city water to the connector and turned on water and no leaks. I assume that the cause of the water gushing was the fact that the water canister was missing the bottom. My questions would be:

Why would the canister "explode" (has antifreeze all winter)

What caused the water to gush out like that? The water filter canister is on the opposite side of the RV. Is there some type of relief valve for this?

Actually taking it out tomorrow for spring break. Should I have any concerns about water leak?

Sounds like the filter froze over the winter. If the filter wasn't drained and antifreeze was just pumped thru it, the antifreeze would get diluted and this winter being more severe in many areas caused it to freeze.

The water filtration system used by Forest River, at least the one used on mine (2014 HW277) the WaterPur Company model # CCI-5CLW12 also cracked. I don't think your issue was due to freezing temperature or winterizing, these filter flat out suck (shame on Forest River)
I live in South Florida, and as you would expect, our weather is not cold down here and mine cracked just like yours did.
Since then, I have just bypassed the filter system with a flexible braided shark bite pipe and use an outside filter. In the event the new filter was to crack/leak, I won't have to worry about it much.....
Will forward a few pictures when I can.
Hope this helps someone out there.

Thanks

The bottom of my canister just exploded....agree that they are bad. The weather in Virginia was not that cold. I appreciate the response and workaround.

Mine did not explode but was a PITA to get it to stop leaking every time we fiddled with it. did the same thing the giovannic did. Will use an exterior filter.

I have had no issues with mine. When I winterized , I leave the globe off and remove the floor drain in the event a little water drains out. I have replaced the oring and have several on hand, just in case. I also use a small amount of petroleum jelly on the oring and threads when I install a fresh filter. Do not over tighten, just snug.
