Leaking water filter unit

Does anyone have a thought about a leaking water filter unit? I have a 2014 2300 and I removed the water filter canister (the heavy clear plastic unit) when I traveled to FL in February to dewinterize from the dealer's initial prep. I had no leaking issues when I was in FL and winterized it on my way back north. After a leak free Memorial Day weekend, I decided to install the cartridge filter. I looks like the filter just drops right in and seats itself on the nub inside the canister. I tightened the canister as much as I could without feeling like I was going to snap it. When I turned on my city water connection, water began to leak from the unit. I removed the canister to inspect it and didn't see any issue with it, put it back on as tight as possible and it continues to leak. I know that I can return it to my dealer for them to fix it, but am heading out again for the 4th and won't be able to get it there. Am I doing something wrong in installing the filter cartridge? Anyone experience a similar issue?

An O-Ring in a slot above the filter canister is the seal. Could the O-Ring have fallen out? If the O-Ring is in place and undamaged, suggest trying it without the filter.

I would also try applying some silicone grease to the O-Ring. These can bind up sometimes and result in leakage.

The O ring is the cuprite no doubt. In addition to not being well seated, grit on them sometimes will cause a leak. They're cheap, replace it on speculation if reseating/cleaning doesn't help

The O ring was the answer. I don't think there was one from the factory. I think they just cranked it up and put in the antifreeze. Thanks for the help everyone!

Go to Lowes/HD and get some Danco silicone paste. Works great on O rings and the threads of the canister as well as the top of the canister.

I had the same problem got it one turn tighter and it stopped but will replace the O ring at next opportunity...thanks everyone

Last year I couldn't get my filter canister to seal and couldn't get a new O-ring in time for our trip. I had to buy a complete assembly. A few months later I found the seal in the bush where I tossed the antifreeze. $60 down the drain.... or in this case, into the bushes.

You shouldn't use petroleum based lubricant on a rubber seal.
Look for something non petroleum based.

I use silicone grease that you can pickup in the plumbing department of any home center on my whole house filter O-ring each time I replace it. It doesn't damage the rubber and is what it was designed for. I also use it for the O-rings in my sprinkler system compression fittings when I reinstall the backflow preventer each spring.

I have done the same when changing the water filter. I also do not put antifreeze in the filter housing no more. (W@(M@^T Brand) messed up my
filter housing. One on the left is new, one on the right is the one that the antifreeze messed up. I installed a By Pass Kit on out filter system. Quick Turn By-Pass Kit - Camco 35983 - Winterizing - Camping World
