Model 3170 with Computer Desk - LOVE IT!

I have had my 3170 with the computer desk option for 6 months now and I LOVE IT!

This model comes with three TV's, which, I can see if you get the Bunk model, the kids can watch the TV from the bunk. Didn't think I would need that extra TV, so I specified I only wanted TWO TV's. Well, my RV came with THREE TV's whether I liked it or not. I find myself actually watching the middle TV while I'm using the computer desk.

All three of my TV's were Jensens, I've had good luck so far (knock on wood) with the Jensen TV's. The bedroom and middle TV are both 12 volt, I like that. The Entertainment Center TV is electric.

It's got a built in GPS, haven't used it yet. After I bought the model, I drove somewhere and parked for the winter.

Instead of doing the TV/DVD combo as I have had in prior models, it's set up so that you use the driving compartment CD Player as the DVD, and you watch DVD's on the TV doing that. Not sure I like that, as I have found that if I want to say, "Hey, I want to watch that last scene again" I have to get up off the couch, lift the privacy curtain, and point the remote to the screen on the driving compartment. Ok, I'm lazy.

The front and rear TV's are connected to a "Switch box." I have had the switchbox in prior RV's, and I have had RV's where the TV's were "independent." I prefer them independent. I don't like the switchbox. But I think to remove the switchbox and make them "independent" takes more skill than I have.

I also have the new "Jack" antenna. It looks like a stealth jet. You don't raise it, you just turn it. The place I'm "wintering" has cable so I haven't tried the JACK yet.

I love the bathtub/shower combo, but the bathtub is a bit small. You have to put your knees to your chest to sit in the bathtub, but it works. The first three months I had the RV, I was living with a foot injury, and the bathtub was difficult to get into with the foot injury. I miss the "walk in shower with a seat" that I had in a Model 3120 I had earlier. But now my foot is fine, I'm walking so I can now get into the bathtub, or stand up and take a shower.

Also, another thing I like is the storage under the bed! LOTS of it. Have to lift the bed up, and that is a bit of a pain, but lots of storage for stuff you don't use much, or want to keep for later.

If you are a solo and have a small business, this model with the computer desk is PERFECT. Also, with the computer desk, you get more cabinets. If you get the bunk option, you get less cabinets. I have more cabinet space than I know what to do with.

The storage on this model is great! I had my prior 3120 STUFFED TO CAPACITY and when I moved it all over to the 3170, I still had storage left over!

Thanks for the comments. I have a few dealers that have started to stock that version of the floor plan. It is a unique version of that floor plan that serves a definite purpose.

We have a 2011 Sunseeker 3120 and are in the process of trading for a new 3170 with the computer desk option. Glad to hear the great comments. I

Believe this option is unique to FR.

This is towards the factory rep or whomever can help with the switch box. We have a 3170 bunk house with the switch box, are ther instructions for it? For instance, what channel does the tv need to be on to see the DVD playing? Can tv1, 2 and 3 all watch the DVD at the same time? Any help would be great.

Read this thread...
Problems with in dash dvd player

To add to that...
DVD feeds switchbox. Switch box feeds TV's via coax (all TV's would need to be on channel 3 or 4...I noticed the last unit I was in was 4. There is a switch on the back of the switch box that selects channel 3 or 4).

In addition there is a DVD out section on the back of the box. This can be used ot wire directly to another input on the front TV (as in AV1...so you would not have to scan for channels)
