Mystery box

I have a 2014 3050s. On the driver's side corner of the top of the dashboard is a 1 inch by 1 inch black box with a wire coming out of it. It is attached with velcro to the Dashboard so I assume it is not a Ford thing. Does anyone know what this is?

Does the box have little holes?

Someone told us it was the antenna for the GPS. I really don't know though. Just throwing that thought out there.

1. It is the GPS antenna
2. The Bluetooth mic would be a small, black, mic looking thing around the back side of the sun visor.
3. XM Antenna is and has always been run to the roof.

I was hoping it was the XM antenna. Guess I will have to run one to the roof. Thanks for the quick responses! Anyone have any advice as to where to route the XM antenna cable?

We ran our XM antenna around the door frame and then up into the top cabinet above the cab (we have cabinets, not a bed, above the cab). We placed it right up near the roof cap in the front and held it in place with Velcro strips. The fiberglass doesn't affect the antenna reception. We weren't keen on drilling holes in the roof, so this was our solution. Works great!

That sounds great. I thought it had to be outside. Much easier to mount it inside! Thanks.

My hubby just reminded me we had to move it around a bit before we found the perfect spot, but with him moving the antenna, and me watching the Sirius radio display, it didn't take us long to find the right spot.

No idea. I know some of the sales guys over there. But that's about it.

I originally ran the antenna out the driver door jamb, under the hood, and out to the front edge of the left fender. Painted it white to match. It worked well except when heading or parked due north--then the cabover area interfered with the signal. So, I got an "indoor" kit for an XM radio. The antenna is a little bigger, and adjustable angle, and does not need to be on a metal surface to work properly. Ran the wire up to the overhead bunk and attached it to the bunk with velcro. It can be moved around for better reception if you are parked and moved to the side if you need to use the bunk. Works very well and no holes drilled anywhere.

If you have a gps intigrated into the dash radio unit that replaced the factory Ford unit, that little "black box" is the antenna for the gps system. You can add an XM system by buying a simple xm unit, about 60 bucks at WalMart, and plug it into the "aux" port in the front of the radio head unit. You than contact XM, and they will walk you through setting it up and activating it..

If your radio looks similar to first pic, than the black box, if it looks like the box in 2nd and 3rd pic is the antenna. 4th pic is of a simple Sirus/XM aftermarket hookup.

Adding the XM unit that plugs into the back of the radio makes a nice install. Out of sight, tunes and displays on the radio display, etc. Only additional wire to run is the antenna.

That's the one I bought. I don't want to look at it. Probably install it in a couple weeks.
