Noise...a/c. — heat pump. - generator

Just got home with our new -2017. SUNSEEKER 2400W—-MBS
Pulled into our parking space...plugged in...enter rv...get thermostat set...
Sat down, attempt to converse, read Manuel’s, etc...like camping at home!

This equipment is very loud. How do you talk, listen to tv...etc??
We had purchased, from FL...sound boards that were supposed to reduce the noise level...cost $400...didn’t do much in our 378 class A Georgetown.

I don’t like hot/humid...or noise. My heart is sinking.

HOW DO YOU HANDLE THE NOISE WHEN IT RUNS CONSTANTLY ...

I don't have that problem in my 2017 Sunseeker 2250. I'm not sure the AC manufacture but there is no heat pump. We have no trouble with the noise of the AC or furnace. The generator basically sounds like the coach motor is running. The only time I have run the generator is for its monthly run under load since we are always hooked up, either at home or at the park.

I suppose if I had the generator and the AC running at the same time the noise could get to me over time. Nothing that would interfere with conversation or TV watching though.

Is it just the AC that is running?

Ours has a "dump mode" and when that register is open it just dumps the cold air straight down from the AC unit. If we close that register off the air is redirected to the other ducts in the ceiling throughout the coach. It is much quieter with the air going through the ducts and not in the dump mode.

That is what sound board was supposed to do...
You removed original vent cover
Blocked the dump...with a piece of sheet metal...

The sound board had an opening on each end...

Cover is soft white material to match ceiling.

Don’t know what type of A/C you have but if it’s a BriskAir II, they are LOUD. My new coach has the Atwood w/heatpump and it is super quiet.

I’m a rookie...how does your rig compare to mine.

Could my unit be traded out?

Mine is a little bigger on an E450 chassis. Yours is a sprinter. The floor plan is not that different but 4 slide outs really change the useability.

Yes, you can swap out A/C units but the bottom end (the control box and thermostat) must be compatible or you will need both. You may just have a bad
squirrel cage which would warrant a dealer visit.

I’ll call my dealer in AM...and see what he says,

We are definitely...concerned right now. We will not be able to tolerate the noise as is...

We just picked up rig today.

Thanks ...

We just picked up our 2017 2400W. It's been too cold here in the Northeast to try the A/C heat pump. But we have run the generator and it is loud and vibrates a lot. Being positioned right underneath the bed will probably make it unusable while sleeping. I was kind of wondering if maybe there were some bolts that were used during transport that need to be released (like when you buy a new washer or dryer). Due to the weather and white stuff on the ground, I haven't investigated it too much. Is this normal for the Onan 3600 W propane generators or is it just poor placement of the unit in the rig? I'd be interested in hearing some input for others as well.

We just picked up 2017 SUNSEEKER 2400W MBS...YESTERDAY.

WE GOT CALLS INTO dealer...a/c was so loud...you couldn’t even have a conversation. We’re trying to negotiate a change out to another. I’ve got a pretty good thread going...so keep watching ... I’ve learned a lot

Check to see if there isn't a small lever on the AC ceiling vent that can be moved to close the dump valve.

[QUOTE=Flybob;1730500]Check to see if there isn't a small lever on the AC ceiling vent that can be moved to close the dump valve.[/QUOTE Yes, close the main cover and force air out the duct work. That will help some, but the unit sits in the middle of the living space and IS NOT quiet !! It's not like the HVAC in your home for sure. I kinda get use to it after the first month on the road.

If you put your fan on the auto position it will cycle off once it reaches your preset temperature. Ours is loud but it's tolerable. We also use the slide on the big vent to route the air to the smaller vents. Auto does help.

Good luck with that Atwood Heat Pump.....it cools great but the heat pump is garbage....It is how they programed it to work....their customer service agents would not keep a job at the drive thru at McDonalds....Mine will not stay running long enough to heat my 32' fifth wheel in Florida in the winter. I made an expensive mistake swapping out my Dometic AC.....so do not expect much from the Atwood, in heat mode the fan never shuts off and never satisfies the thermostat ....Atwood says it is supposed to work that way.....I told them that was BS because I went to school for A/C....

Compare to another unit at dealer

In addition to having the dealer listen to your unit, ask if you can listen to another similar unit on the lot. IMHO the HVAC's are pretty common even if not the exact same interior layout...

Don't know how technically inclined you are... but when I was investigating the noise issue with my 3011Ds I found a free android app called FFTwave. I used it as a sound power level meter. Test drove another 3011DS and found out the ambient running noise was about the same.

My HVAC unit is "noisy" too, and it's in storage so I can't tell you how noisy. However, from your description a visit to the dealer is in order.
Good luck!

Are we supposed to just TOLERATE NOISE

I guess I won’t put earmuffs away this winter.
I’ll need them in SUNSEEKER to stay sane.

WHAT IS EVERYONE DOING TO REDUCE THE NOISE??

Nothing. Everything is fine in mine and the noise is not disruptive at all.
