Over the cab

My latest mod. I removed the cab over mattress and made a entertainment center. It's made out of solid hemlock. The TV is on a pivot mount so that the viewing angle can be adjusted side to side and up and down as needed.
The door beneath the TV is where the Blue-ray player and DVD's go.

First pic is the before followed by the addition.

VERY NICE!! would be hard pressed to tell it wasn't factory install, wait, I take that back, it wouldn't be as nice if it was factory HAHA!!

Good work! Funny - we have an overhead entertainment center that I want to move. Here's the existing setup:



That's the best pic I have at the moment... there are double doors on either side of the TV that have magnetic catches. When closed, it looks a lot like your setup.

I'm planning on moving the TV cabinet and back so that it sets at a better angle to the dinette. This will open up the area so I can put a normal twin sized mattress in the overhead.

What are you planning to do with the mattress, BTW?

We are located in the valley some miles W/NW of Salem.

We don't need the extra sleeping area and that space just ends up being a place for clutter. I put the TV on a pivot mount so it's viewable from the dinette or couch. The mattress is in storage along with the ladder. It's a grape color in good condition. We had planned on keeping it so if we ever sold the coach, the new owner would have the option of removing the entertainment center and using the bed. When we had a Class C we installed a long wooden rod using those round wooden rod holders, one on either side wall. Wife did a quick sew job for a sliding curtain that matched the decor. We used Tupperware buckets to store lots of stuff, including can goods, bread, lots of other food items plus lots of clothing. When the curtain was closed it all disappeared so as not to be an eye sore.

That sounds like a good solution but we didn't like the TV hanging on a cabinet door so I built this unit. We still have most of the storage available behind the two doors out of sight and stuff won't be falling down and hitting me in the head while I'm driving now.

BOL- great work ,looks BETTER THAN FACTORY,IMHO. The stain looks to be a good color match. What stain or combination of stains did you use ?

Don't know what BOL is, just another typing shortcut I guess? Thanks for the kind words. I used Golden Pecan stain from Minwax, with a Polyurethane finish, 4 coats. This is the first time I have worked with hemlock and it was a bugger to stain. I used pre stain treatment, I wet the wood to open the pours etc. and still got some blotchiness. I used Hemlock because it was the closest match gain wise to the other wood in the coach.
I have a lot of experience with oak, maple, pine, but not Hemlock, but I have some now
