Phase-out of Ford E450?

I understand that Ford is going to phase out the E-series chassis. Does anyone (B.Clemens?) know when this is going to happen? We plan to purchase a Sunseeker 3050S, probably a 2016 model and are concerned that we will be forced into the new Transit model. The first year on any new model vehicle is usually fraught with problems. I feel that the E450 is a very well proven chassis. Any answers?

from what i have read the e450 vans are going away but the chassis that the class c is built off of is staying.

E450 is used to build a lot of Vans and Uhaul loves them. Low maintenance chassis and has power. Locally in Kitchener Roadtrek manufacturing is on Sprinter and GMC as they use the actual floor and parts of the Van box for the chassis to build on.

Not to worry for 2016. Ford will make both Transit and Econoline cutaway chassis through 2019 at which time it is my understanding that the E450 will be phased out. The Transit chassis will initially not have the capacity of the E450 so certain smaller Class Cs may use it sooner but the heavy 3050 will stay on the E450 til 2020.

If you are looking to order a 2016 you only have a couple months to wait since new model changeover occurs in April. The E450 chassis used would be a 2015 or maybe even a leftover 2014 so you will most certainly get the Econoline chassis.

Just to confirm, what everyone is saying is correct. E-Series will be around through the end of this decade. Assuming of course they can increase the GVWR on the transit...which many are skeptical that they can do.

Chevy just cut the number of chassis we would get this year. Colorado got truck of the year and they're ramping up on that.

Total annual Class C sales are only about 15-20K split between 4 chassis manufacturers so the market is a drop in the bucket for GM or Ford. If it wasn't for box truck conversions it might be hard to get someone to make the higher capacity chassis for the 30+ foot floor plans.
