Propane problem
So I took a trip this past weekend and used the propane Friday for heat and fridge. Turned the propane off Saturday morning when we left the MH for a few hours. Upon returning we needed to use the oven, I went to open the propane tank and I'm not quite sure what happened??? I think I had it turned all the way left(open) and all of a sudden I couldn't turn it in either direction- it is stuck tight, won't budge a bit either way. The tank is full and I don't now if somehow the pressure made the knob get stuck. Can't even be sure it is in the open position cause when I tried running the heat after it got stuck it wasn't blowing out any hot air. Any help anyone can give would be appreciated, can't get an appointment at the dealer till after my next trip and I'm gonna need the heat. Thanks everyone!

You can check to see if it is in the open position by turning on a burner for a little bit on the stove. I would take the trailer and all to a propane dealer. They can probably help you a whole lot quicker than an rv place.

a very quick answer ... disconnect your propane tanks ... turn them both to all the way off positions as indicated on the handle/turn off thingy ... then reconnect the propane tanks ... then turn both on ......
trust me .. this is not an issue .. most of us here have struggled with this issue the first time and all freaked out ...

D-mo,
Don't want to sound like too much of a newbie, but how do I disconnect? I have a 3170ds model, is the hose I should disconnect under the plastic cover in the propane compartment?
I will be very happy if that will help release the pressure and let me get the knob to turn. Thanks I will give this a try over the next day.

Yeah no problem at all you have to do with this is remove the 2 screwing cats that are on your propane tanks turn both tanks off before you remove the cats let them set for about 30 or 40 seconds reinstall the caps onto your propane tank then turned either one or both on whichever you wish this should solve your problem new sentence this was done by Google Voice and cats should read plastic cap

Cannot turn the valve to either open or close- it's stuck, I'm guessing it's frozen

Guys the OP has a motor home which has the propane tank welded to the frame you cannot remove it. If he can't get to a RV dealer I would take it to a propane supplier.

Try running the stove and see if it has a good high flame on all burners. If so the valve is open and it should run the furnace.
If it's not open then I agree with taking it to a propane dealer.

Propane problem
Try a pair of channel locks first, gently I might add... Remember the rule: Lefty loosey, Righty tighty.
See if you have gas at the stove, if you don't then your valve is most likely stuck shut, so lefty loosey with the pliers. Unless that valve is visibly rusty or visibly damaged in some way I highly doubt you need to take it anywhere.

D-mo, I suggest you drop Goggle Voice or view what it produces before you post so we can try to understand what advice you're giving. Also, the OP said he couldn't turn the valves so telling him to turn the valves might not work.

The problem with suggesting that he use pliers to turn the valve is; suppose, just suppose, that he wrings the stem out of the valve; then what? I realize that's not a high likelihood, but it appears that there's something wrong with the valve already.

D-mo.
All you have to say on Google voice is "period" or "question mark" at the end of a sentence and it will start a new sentence.

Bama you are correct, the suggestion to use pliers implies the OP needs to use a modicum of common sense.
In the past I too have over exuberantly closed my LP valve and it became stuck. I was able to unstick it with brute strength and a sore hand after a couple of tries. I added a pair of channel locks to my tool kit after that incident.

The guy at the gas company will check your stove to see if gas is on or off then he will turn the hand valve left or right
