Pump runs but no water comes out/ problem solved - thanks

I’m doing the de-winterizing and every thing seemed fine until I turned the bypass under the shower to RV normal operation. Now my pump just keeps running and no water comes out of the facet. It seems to be ok if I turn on the city water. I do not see any leeks in the motor home or underneath RV. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.

What does what I emboldened in blue above mean?

Meaning, you have water in the fresh tank and the pump was drawing water from the fresh tank but stopped when you turned the bypass valve?

And this bypass valve... are you referring to the winterization valve (that selects either drawing antifreeze into the system or drawing from the fresh tank) or the bypass valves on the water heater?

Either empty fresh water tank or more likely winterize hose is on and valve needs to be turned. Possibly even water heater filling up first

This is our first time to do this. So I didn’t fill the tank in the back of RV that says potable water only. Is that my problem?

I followed steps in book and had it hooked up to city water then I ran out all the antifreeze and then I turned the handle under the shower to normal operation and waited about 10 minutes before I turned off city water. Then I turned on water pump and could not get water to come out. Pump would run.

Yes tank needs to have water in it to be able to use water pump.

I think that might be it! Let me fill that and see. I was thinking that hooking the hose up on the side would fill that tank but you are saying that the tank needs filled by another fill on the back of RV.

I don't know about your RV but mine has a "city water" connection that bypasses the tank so the pump is not used and a "tank fill" that fills the tank. The pump draws from the tank.

Not ALL R/V's have a separate fresh tank fill. Some do, some don't.

Some units you attach the hose to the city water connection and turn a valve (typically in the wet bay) and it diverts the city water into the fresh tank to fill it.

Other units have a gravity fill port where you remove a cap and stick the city water hose into the filler neck to fill the tank.

Yes, you need to put water in the tank through the other fill.

Glad you were able to get your pump working... now... since you mentioned you dewinterized and plan to use water... have you sanitized your fresh tank and water system?

Thanks! Behind a newbie, I thought hooking up to City Water would fill fresh water! Not sure why some of that type was in blue!?!? Thanks

No, I have not. I have heard adding 1/4 cup bleach to fresh water tank, and some say vinegar. What do you suggest?

Can't go wrong with plain old bleach for sanitizing.

Bleach to sanitize, vinegar to descale the water heater.

1/4 cup of bleach per 15 gallons of water in the tank (If you have a 60 gallon tank then that would be 1 cup of bleach). Fill tank partially, add bleach, fill tank the rest of the way. With the pump on and disconnected from city water, run each faucet individually (both hot and cold) until you can smell the bleachy water and then shut it off. Best to do with the water heater in bypass since it doesn't need to be sanitized and will save water and flushing time.

Take a drive to slosh the water in the tank around.

Let the bleachy water sit in the tank and the lines for a few hours.

Drain the tank. Refill with water. Run each faucet until you can't smell bleach, if you still smell bleach then drain and fill again, then run water through the lines until the water runs clean.

That's how I do it, anyway.

Thanks so much for the feedback to give us closure. I see so many threads where a lot of good suggestions are made and then the party with the problem never gets back to us to let us know how it came out.

Thanks again
