Question
Any of you folks wish you would have gotten a fifth wheel instead of your class C?

All configurations, from tent to motorhome, have advantages and disadvantages. To me, this makes ANY choice a compromise. Do a pro-con analysis on each combo or type, then pick the one that best fits your needs!

Yes I have a 3010 DS Sunseeker brand new. It is very nice. I just was polling.

I don't think we fully know why we pull the plug on a certain type of RV. This time around I was considering a 5er and additionally a bigger truck. And the next thing I knew, I bought my MH at a show. I still need to figure out my toad dilemma and realize maintenance on the MH will be busy too. However, I love my Sunseeker.

I don't have a C but I did get a A. I planned on buying a 5'r. I just didn't want to drive the big diesel every day as my personal truck. I love the big truck but to much every day. Lots of plus and minus with every choice. Love my Berkshire but lots of work also. We did pull into a park this week and were set up and in our Pj's in about 5 minutes. That is nice!

We had several travel trailers and had been looking at 5th wheels. But what always held us back is that 3/4 ton trucks ride like trucks when they are not hauling a load. They have 1/2 ton towable 5ers but they all seem to be very close to being overweight. Right now we are very happy with our Sunseeker 2300.

Seems like all the people I have camped with over the years have gone through a progressive upgrade-over-time.
Generally, everybody starts with a tent, upgrades to a tent trailer (pop-up); upgrades to a travel trailer (or truck camper) then upgrades to a fifth-wheel or motor home of some type.
My wife and I went from tent to travel trailer to class C 3100 and am very happy.

I have a TH and there are plenty of times I wish I a class A or C. It would sure be nice to hit a few switches and be rolling down the road.
If you are a class C person you are going to be happy with you have.
I think when we change rigs at some future date we will go the 5ver route though. We sure like the idea of having the TV seperate from the TH.
Yes, the 3/4 ton drives like a truck. But it is a very nice truck, and with 4x4 has gotten us in and out of some very interesting places.

I've had the tent, cabover truck camper, small TT, Class A, fifth wheel, Class C and now a toyhauler. I think you need to buy what suits you best at the time. The first three on my list were the cheapest and the ones I used the most. Maybe it was because I was younger then.

My wife and I were just talking about how we used to just throw stuff in the car and take off Friday night for a weekend camping trip, come home Sunday night and go to work Monday morning.
Those days are over as it takes us a couple days to pack the RV properly (not to mention the fridge cool-down that takes a day or two by itself).
Definitely younger back then...

We came from a 5th wheel - we've owned a hybrid, travel trailer, and a 5th wheel over the last several years. My wife and I are not regreting the switch to a driving unit. I was sick of having a HD truck with a gas drinking engine and rough ride as my daily commuter, in addition to the higher maint. costs.
I have not looked back and if I were to buy another RV it would be a Class A or another C.

Yeah, this thread is pretty good because it has not (yet) degenerated into my RV is better than yours.
Just this weekend I met some potential new RVers who would have benefited from this thread. They never owned one before and were just looking for a good used class C.
I gave them some things to think about like: real fuel consumption, toads, mission, costs, repairs, private sale vs. dealership sale, pitfalls and pluses of buying used. I think they are real class C candidates, but they need to do a little more research.

When I first started looking for a Class C, I was thinking a diesel would be nice (slight increase in mileage and more towing power). I looked for a Class C for 8 months and ran across only one diesel (that was in the price range I budgeted for).
I think diesel Class C's are rare (I could be wrong).

Rare and extinct. Ford stopped putting the Diesel in the cutaway over a year ago. Not sure if it's while they consolidate engines or if its for good. Even when we offered it, we didn't see much demand. Lots of questions yes...actual buyers, no.
However, on the rise is the Mercedes Diesel. That is a segment that has really grown for us over the past 2 years. Downside is they can only be 24 feet in length. Nice chassis though.

When we looked at RV's we thought that we would travel more so we were intent on a DP and ended up with a 40DP. Not sure we would make the same choice after the first year of ownership. We still want to travel more but we tend to camp. I think a C would have worked fine for us.
The MH is going in storage until March 1 then down south for 6-8 weeks. That may Change my mind but we are not the RV resort type. I like state parks and being in the woods.
I would suggest that everyone join and research forums like this one before buying a RV.
I also think we would have benefited from renting different size MH before buying.
One thing has not changed is that I love to walk through the campgrounds and admire all the different RV's there are some cool rigs and setups that people come up with.

We don't own a motorhome, but I'll add my 2 cents worth. If we had it to do all over again, we'd probably go with a 5th wheel. (We tented for 20+ years and this was our first TT purchased). We had an inadequate TV at the time so we thought we could limp around for a year or so and stay mostly local. The day before we picked up the TT, we bought a Ram 2500 CTD. So we could have gone with a 5th wheel from the start, had we known we were going to buy a truck also. Maybe our next until will be a 5er. If we can find one with a huge bathroom and outside kitchen. Because once you have both of those, there is no going back! Happy travels!

One thing is for sure, there are good things and bad things about any of the choices. When I say bad things I mean things you may not like. So, we've had two pop ups, one without air conditioning and one with. Got tired of putting the popup up and down in the rain, and decided on a hybrid cause I didn't want to do away with the camping feel. Had a roo for 8 years. The bunk ends got to be a pain and the beds were horrific to sleep on. My popup was much better even with three foam toppers on the hybrid.
So we had a huge debate on TT versus, 5th wheel, versus Class A or C. I found a nice 2500 Suburban used which I bought and we felt we would go with a TT till we retired.
Then we saw the Sunseeker and loved the floor plan. We also wanted to stay smaller so we could get in State Parks.
I love the ease of setup versus a TT or Hybrid but I don't like the dolly already. My next car will be one to tow 4 down. Or I will just rent a car when we get to our destination.
I have a company truck so It didn't make sense to buy a dually and leave it set in the garage.
It is tough. Hard to beat the interest rates right now and the deal was very good so I'm excited and happy.
