Recall Notice

The following recall notice is for Sunseekers and Foresters and other Forest River coaches built in a specific time period. The remedy has not been announced as of yet but will begin August 18th:

NHTSA Campaign ID: 16V465000

Manufacturer:
Forest River, Inc.

Model Year:
2016

Make:
FOREST RIVER

Model:
SUNSEEKER

Recall Date:
20160627

Component:
EXTERIOR LIGHTING:TAIL LIGHTS

Potential # of Units Affected:
1999

Summary:
Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain model year 2015-2017 Forester motorhomes manufactured June 10, 2014, to May 25, 2016, Sunseeker motorhomes manufactured April 4, 2014, to May 25, 2016, 2015-2016 Solera motorhomes manufactured February 28, 2014, to September 17, 2015, and 2016 Isata motorhomes manufactured October 30, 2015, to May 26, 2016. Water may leak into the electrical module that controls the vehicle taillights, brake lights, turn signal lights, clearance lights and marker lights, making the lights inoperative. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

Consequence:
If the rear brake lights fail to illuminate, following motorists may not realize that the vehicle in front of them is stopping. Inoperative taillights, clearance lights and marker lights will make the vehicle less visible to others. Either condition can increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy:
The remedy for this recall is still under development. The recall is expected to begin August 18, 2016. Forester, Solera, and Sunseeker owners may contact Forest River customer service at 1-574-206-7600. Isata customers should call 1-574-262-3474. Forest River''s number for this recall is 51-06012016-0206.

I would hope it's more than those units mentioned. I have a 2017 Sunseeker - haven't looked at the build date yet since I'm at work, but as you can see in the picture below, I have had water in my rear lens. I will be contacting my dealer in reference to this.........

Drill a small hole in the bottom of the bulged portion of the lens.

DaGrinch, the recall says "Water may leak into the electrical module that controls the vehicle taillights, brake lights, turn signal lights, clearance lights and marker lights, making the lights inoperative." Sounds like an issue up front in the engine compartment which would be attributable to the chassis manufacturer rather than FR?

I see they are using 4 screws on the clear lense now. (my 2016 had 2 screws)
But it still leaks?
I sealed mine up with clear silicone.
That is the entrance point. They use a cheap foam seal.

Did your Led's blow out- mine did on one and FR replaced it with a 3 screw clear lense. siliconed the perimeter and the center lense.
No issues since.

Dealer replaced our 2016 Sunseeker tail lights in June. One was leaking and both were replaced.

No LED's were blown, harmed or otherwise rendered malfunctioning with the water inside the lens.
I couldn't tell you if the lens still leaks or not - we haven't had any decent rain for some time! It'll rain this weekend - we're going back up to Raystown Lake, PA.
All I did was back out the bottom 2 screws on the lens. Water poured out. Haven't sealed it up yet. But, I do appreciate the info on the clear lens!

None of mine have blown, but I've rebuilt the seals on the clear lenses to no avail. I've drilled a small hole at the base to drain the water too, but the inside of the lower lenses now have a coating.

These lamps were manufactured by someone other than the chassis manufacturer. I can't recall the brand right off - Command?

Good to hear of the recall. I'll be happy to have ours replaced with something that is properly sealed, as these should have been to begin with...
