I have read several posts where people have just eliminated that filter and use a disposable one on the fresh water input outside. Seems to be a lot of problems with the factory installed one.

I have had no problems with the factory filter and like the fact that it provides filtration for all water (in tank or shore), with no fuss or muss. I have winterized each year with air and anti freeze. I remove the filter canister, remove the filter, then pump AF. It fills the canister and pumps through the system. I dry the threads fully on the canister and have had no problems. A new filter cartridge in the spring and we are ready for another season.

Same here. I do use the tank more than hose so filtering that water is important to me as well.

Vaseline might not be food safe but that is what was used before Chapstick was invented maybe you are little young for that

I removed mine and have a stainless bracket on the side of the trailer for it to hang on. I always use city water so I am not worried about the water in the tank or pump. I'll put it all back stock when I sell the trailer.

Ayup...now we're showing our age. Ohhh how I remember Mom smearing that vasoline..
Personally, I don't use any O-ring lube. Keep the ring clean and make sure the cartridge is perfectly aligned with the down tube and screw it on until it makes contact. Go slow, take your time. Once it's on, give a gentle twist to tighten and Voila! The cartridge should be leak free.

No vaseline

I had similar filters for my sticks and bricks home. It is important to always relieve the pressure by turning turning on faucets and let system drain without the pump running. Always use a small amount of FOOD SAFE SILICONE on the "O" ring and the threads. A little goes a long way. Make sure the silicone lube is FOOD SAFE. And yes I have eaten vicks which is vaseline. Might be ok to ingest but it will interact with the rubber washers in the valves of the RV and you will have to replace them.

I didn't know the pump will drain the filter sump, got to try this, I hate juggling these canisters full of water.

This has its advantages but then you will not have a filter on water coming OUT of the fresh water tank. Any dirt, sand or (worse) bacteria in the tank or its line will be pumped right into the coach lines.

Whoever gave that tip about "turn on the water pump" and run water to drain it out of the filter cannister, IT WORKED!

I got my water filter cannister off EASY! THANK YOU!

Better to use just a little Danco Silicone lube on the O ring. If nothing is used on the O ring, they seem to like to stick to the surfaces they touch. VOE!

Am I the only one here that has put a bypass kit on their water filter canister? It's the same kit as a hot water tank bypass and all you have to do is turn the lever remove canister dump water and winterize. No antifreeze gets to the canister and then in the spring, put the filter back in and turn the lever and you are back in business.

I just don't see a need to do that. All you are doing is saving about a quart of anti-freeze. The stuff isn't that expensive to worry about a quart.

Funny that you'd throw your hat into this ring. Welcome, Mr. Kettle.

I believe this is the simple secret that will cure all of the problems people have with the canisters blowing off.
