Pros:

smoke or black covers reduce heat into the rig

You can open the vents rolling down the road and not worry about rain or wind issues

Keeps most of the rain out when parked. Driving rain can still get in if it's coming from the right direction.

Helps keep critters out when your vents are open

Cons

Cost

If you buy cheap unhinged units you have to remove them when checking or redoing seals

One more thing to get hit on the roof

I have the maxx airs
Installed myself very easy
The one for the Fantastic fan is a little different but just as easy to install
I did the white on the Bath and living room for the most sky lighting
Smoked on the bedroom for darkness but it still leaves in light
In a pounding driving rain one night I could feel a light mist on my face so they really are nice to have for venting on rainy days
Harder for bugs to get in too.
They don't really stick up much above the air conditioner so no big deal
I'm a big fan

When we got our new unit we had covers put on. Found they restricted the air flow so much we took them off. We have a 2860 with 3 fantastic fans.

When installing the Maxx Air vents, do you have to drill new holes in the roof or do they use the existing holes that the original vents are fastened with?

They fasten to the vent frame. You must drill small holes for the mounting brackets. I put 4 on in about an hour and a half. Love the vents!

Do you have to do some more sealing afterwards, and if so, what do you use?

No sealing required. As others have said. A lot of good positives. I would not have an RV without them. Another positive. When in storage, you can open the vents without rain and it helps keep it cooler when vents are open.

No but if you use the fantastic vent over a fantastic fan you will use some existing holes and put some self leveling dicor on and that still only takes 1/2 hour or so for that vent cover from start to finish

Sounds good. Question, since I've never bought or installed one before. What do I need to know before purchasing, so I get the right ones?
