screens added to water heater and furnace

I added screens to the water heater and furnace but did not want the edges scratching the side of the rv..so I added vacuum hose tubing to the edge...I think I did a pretty good job!

Just out of curiosity, where did you add a screen to the water heater?

I attached screens to the furnace vents, fridge vents and water heater door last fall to both keep mice and wasps out of entering those areas. I got my screens from Amazon and they attach with springs except for the fridge vent screens which attach with plastic tie straps. All were easy to install.

Well, OK. Are you not concerned with the very high heat transfer to the vacuum hose on the furnace screen? The intense heat generated there will burn you, thus the warning embossed on the outlet. Maybe it's OK. Just a thought.

got the screens from my dealer they attach with small springs very easy I did it..the black tubing is small vacuum hose from Auto Zone I sliced it down the middle and then slid it on the edges not sure why the makers of the screens do not have something to protect the side of the RV

the screen is well over the side of the furnace vent if it gets hot enough to melt the tubing then I would think it would melt the side of the RV plus doesn't vacuum hose get hot under a hood and not melt?? Humm I thought I was doing something good...

Never had a scratch in over 2 years.....for the fridge and A/C, use alum. screening from HD or Lowe's, cut with scissors, and used alum. heat duct tape...

Our service mechanics insist that we only use these screens when not using the appliance otherwise, they will limit their air intake and can actually cause serious problems. Check the manufacturer, they are the ones who told our techs.

I also have heard that certain types of screen material may inhibit flow of air and have an adverse effect on operation, but I have never actually seen this in writing. It seems feasible - otherwise the factory would use a smaller gauge screen material.

I use no pest strips cut in small pieces and just set them inside the door of water heater, furnace or anywhere wasps or bugs get. They work great.

Here's a link to the ones you can buy on Amazon. You can get the at the dealer too. They have them for the water heater too. Do not need to put rubber on for protection.

Found some stainless screen and mounted it under the intake/exhaust plate.

Found out NC mud daubers can get into the "add on" screens.

It may seem the screen is a little too large for your setup. I purchased a round set of screens that fit over each vent without going over the edge. It makes a tight seal against the Mud Dauber from entering. They are attracted to the smell of LPG. They are a large wasp and can sting if bothered. Not good to have aboard. The nest can also be blown up using a M-80.
