Slide seal question on 2014 3170

Just a question and observation.

The outside bedroom slide seals run in a seal track that is secured to the wall with the standard #2 sq hd screw.

The outside couch slide seals run in a seal track that is secured to the wall with twisted nails.

One nail fell out, seal slide down. I pulled seal off track and saw the nails. Installed the Seal in the track, put a screw the bottom.

Question, why? Productivity would suffer and incur added fastener cost, by using two different fasteners, which would require two different tools on the line.

If any more nail fall out, I will replace with screws and washers.

I believe, according to the factory, that the seal manufacturer states the nails are the installation method. Maybe BC can chime in but this was asked in a previous post.

Correct. The slide seal guys suggest a ring shank nail design for that purpose (They say its not supposed to fall out???). Personally I could make a screw work...but they had too many guys running the screws in and twisting the rubber or pulling through the rubber.

So that's what they tell us to do. Someone probably thought a screw would be easier since it was in their hand.

I understand. If I lose any more nails, I will replace it with a proper #8 screw with flat washer. It was the bottom screw that allowed the gasket to slide down. I guess the last nail was not installed correctly.
Just wondering.

I changed mine to screws. Just don't like nails, and never had a screw come out when used for this.
