Sticky black water valve

Ever since I got my 2017 MBS 2400w, the black valve has been extremely stiff. I got it with 4500 miles on it so it is not under warranty. Anybody had this problem?

Sounds constipated... LOL sorry... try spraying WD-40 on the gate valve and the stainless slide, obviously when clean.

The valve is easy and cheap to replace...maybe a ten minute job. A temporary fix which may or may not last a long time is to lube the inside of the valve. Like this:

If you can access the valves easily, you could try this first and if it doesn’t do the trick you can replace the valve.

I wonder if that ever begins to leak in time.

Highly unlikely. The hole is above the valve in the valve housing, and the valve is working so no wastewater should ever get to the hole. If it ever did, the hole is sealed well.

On our 2400W both valves were stiff. The issue was that the cables were several feet long due to the 2400W design. Rerouting the cables, making a smoother radius, helped make our cables less stiff...

I was going to replace the cables with electric remote valves if rerouting the cables hadn't helped...

the above mentioned video is a good fix, did it several yrs ago when someone in the forum here showed their mod idea of doing that, ... but the seal surface on the gate is rubber and you should not use any type of petroleum base lubricant or WD40 on rubber, the silicon spray is best, ...

I have a 2016 MBS 2401W and have the same problem. My dealer hasn't suggested a solution for sticky cable valves. Additionally, the handles will extend in cold weather and force open the little door that covers the valve handles. Dealer says Forest River hasn't come up with a solution for that either. Now I keep the doors closed with black duck tape when traveling. I chalk both issues up to a bad design. I need a solution for both issues. Overall, however, I am quite happy with my RV.

I have the same problem on my FR MBS 2017. In order to be able to close the « little »door, I unscrue the handle and store it until I find mild wheather.

Black tank valve

After you dump add a couple gallons of water and then a cup of Calgon down the toilet this will lube up the gaskets. Been FT for 2 years and works for me.

With all due respect Mike - DO NOT USE WD-40. It is a solvent, NOT a lubricant. Learned this the hard way and now use the same spray recommended for the Schwintek slide tracks - CRC High Performance with PTFE. WD-40 is great for cleaning lubricants, hands, gunk from labels, crayons and hundreds more.

RedLdr1 got it right. Apparently it's too much effort for FR to route the cables properly and then cut them to length so instead they use the 10' cable and zip tie them in tighter curves than they are supposed to be. Rerouting the cables and cutting them to proper length makes it very easy to open and close the valves. It also eliminates the issue with not being able to keep the little door closed since there is no longer so much "play" in the cable forcing the handles into the door!
