Check for bug nests in heater vent.

Also check heat ducts/vents. If they are partially blocked, the furnace will overheat and the over temp will shut it down. There are know instances of the flexible heat ducts being crushed by wiring or frame members.

Light a burner on the stove and watch how it acts when the furnace starts. If the flame on the stove goes low or out, you have a propane supply issue.

I had the same problem so I joined the RV Repair club for $6.00 (annual membership) today to access all of their on line videos. Black Friday/Cyber Monday deal. Just going to watch the video now.

Maybe a mud dauber in exhaust or burn chamber, if not a propane problem.

Did you do the "turn on a stove burner and then the furnace" test?

[QUOTE=izzaboomer;1370989]Trouble is I am at a campground with very limited reception.

I knew that there was propane because it would start then go out. Then I had to access the control board... On mine it was difficult to do because the only way to get at it was to slide the whole unit out on the inside (I have a 2012 8280 Rockwood fifth wheel and the furnace is located under the oven)..Now the problem ... I had to disconnect the propane and that can be a dangerous process...I would not recommend that. Depending on the year of your unit, there may be an access panel right where the furnace exhausts, If there is, take out the screws and you should be able to access the control panel. Near the control panel there should be a small box with a little flipper on it. It may be that the flipper is stuck.. This unit works as follows.. When your furnace fires up, the fan should start but if the chamber gets too hot the flipper will activate and shut down the flame... Hope this helps a little. http://www.forestriverforums.com/for...ies/crying.gif

4. Burner ignites, but goes off and into lockout:
a. Check to be certain that flame sensor is over slots in the main
burner and that the main burner flame is burning against the tip
of the flame sensor - adjust by bending sensor probe. NOTE:
Sensor probe should be in the inner blue cone of the burner
flame (approximately 1/4" t o 5/16" above burner).
b. Burner still goes off and into lockout - check wire connections
at flame sensor and at module board.
c. Wire connections OK - check continuity through flame sensor
wire.
d. Continuity of flame sensor wire OK - check with micro amp
meter in series with flame sensor and flame sensor wire to be
certain that the flame sensor is generating at least seven
micro amps within seven seconds after the burner is ignited.
Connect meter as follows: (+) to sensor wire, (-) to sensor
probe. Adjust position of sensor probe, check for carbon
deposits on sensor probe if reading is less than seven micro
amps.
e. Flame sensor circuit generating at least seven micro amps,
but burner still goes off and into lockout - replace module
board

Above is a link from the library in the green bar at the top of the page. open the link and down load it and open the down load. the information I coped above is on page 29 of this link.

A common problem with the flame rod in your home or RV furnace is that it corrodes with white rust or red rust. The rust acts as an insulator to the micro amps and needs to be removed. This can be cleaned off with steal wool or 400 grit sand paper or a new flame rod so the rod has good contact with the flame to pass the micro amps.

Hope This Helps Tim

I'm suspicious of the "small boom" statement. You should never have this because the only way you get a small boom is a gas explosion. Gas explosions occur when propane spreads around the mixing tube instead of travelling through it. Propane exits an orifice, mixes with air then is transported to the burners. If some of the propane does not go to the burners, you can get the "small boom" when the gas concentration rises to the point where the burner flame ignites it. This explosion will probably shut down the burner, exactly what you are seeing.

You should verify that the tubing between the orifice and the burners is free of obstructions.

Hi izzaboomer looks like I ran into the same problem you are or were having with intermittent furnace operation. The 2 sons came home to visit and took over living room. So I went out to the TT turned on the television and furnace. Furnace worked for the first hour and then started with the fun and games of not playing nice. IT would lite the burner and go out 3 time and then lock out. I cleaned the flame rod NO change! Check the furnace over for how bad it was going to be to pull the furnace so I could get to the control board. After looking it over I called the dealer he said to bring it in. Brought it there last Thursday and got it back on Wednesday (to day). Dealership replaced the control board under warranty from suburban less than 2 years old and now works like new.

Hope This Helps Tim

Thanks guys for all the info. Turned out to be muddobbers. I had put screens on right after purchase so must have happened at dealership. Good luck proofing that. I ate the cost.
