Suggestion on route from Toronto, Ontario to Orlando, Florida

First time using my new 2015 3010ds drive down to Orlando, please give me some suggestion on route and good site to stay along the way.

We are departing next week and planned to use 3 days to drive down. Based on current weather and road condition which route should I take.

By using Google map it shows three route choices, via I-95, I-77s, and I-75s.

Also we have total of 7 people (In-law and my kids), any suggestion on good camp-grounds along the way that allow large party to stay.

I-75 is a little out of your way, and longer, from Toronto. While it is flatter it is pretty boring (maybe you like boring?)

I-79 goes through Pittsburgh (not bad at all at mid-day) while the I-77 skirts Cleveland and goes through Ohio - not much to choose between them (personally, I took I-79 and its quite good). When taking I-79, use US-19 to cut off the westward jog to join the i-77 at Beckley instead of Charleston. Then you get the I-26 at Columbia, SC and join the I-95 for the final southward leg. The scenery is much better, although there are some pretty good grades as you're going through the wrinkly bits of the Appalachians. You also get to avoid Atlanta and Macon (I was stuck at a dead standstill for nearly an hour around Macon on a Sunday morning).

We went down 75 (because the DW wanted to hit Atlanta) and back 95/26/77/79 because our last extended stop was Hilton Head.

As for sites, not too much to suggest - we did it in winter so the most northern stop in the 5er was the KOA at Statesville, NC. Also stayed at the KOA in Titusville but that's so close to the end of your journey that you'll just carry on to Orlando. BTW: I'll never stay at either of those again... both are far below the KOA standards I'm used to and are far too close to the interstate (convenient but noisy).

Dave takes the same route we do, have for the last 4 trips to Naples. Stay off I75 unless, like Dave say's Borrring!! It also takes you through Atlanta. Don't go there, always construction.

Hey, its construction season now - the orange traffic barrel is nearly every state's State Flower. You're bound to hit some whichever way you go. Worst section is I-75 through Detroit and they're probably never going to fix that.

P.S. 3 days is doable but those are some long days with an RV. If Google maps says 8 hours for a leg, budget 10. I find the extra mental alertness you have to maintain with an RV to be more exhausting than by car, however that may be better in a class C than with a 5er. A second driver will make it a piece of cake but my DW won't drive our rig.

We use I75 and rarely have had trouble with Atlanta, we use the HOV lane when we can much faster. I agree with Dave about Google or map quest add at least 2 hours on to their time for every 8. I was in Toledo a couple of weeks ago, lots of construction on I75 there.

Michigan is always a construction zone and we STILL have terrible roads!

Very late at night. I live there and I hate driving a car there much less towing. Those folks give no quarter to anyone.

It sure cuts down the time but you need to look out for people entering and leaving where they are not supposed to, idiot factor is high.

Some of the HOV lanes require a "peach pass" ( I think that's what it's called). They charge you by the mile and it changes based on traffic volume. I know I-85 uses this north of Atlanta and it's being expanded to I-75 south of Atlanta. I don't use the HOV lanes because if you have an issue and need to get off in a hurry it will be very difficult to cross all those lanes to the shoulder.

I use rainbow bridge crossing in Buffalo,NY and have never been searched going either direction. Just questions. I-190 S takes you to I-90 and I-79. A 2nd customs is closer to toronto but busier.

I think that is actually the Peace Bridge, but in any case it is the most westerly I believe. QEW to I 190 to I 90.

When we came north at bthe end of March this year we staged from Orlando(Kissimmee) to New Green Acres at Walterboro, SC. Next day we stayed over at Fort Chiswell KOA, at the junction of I77 and I 81. Next night at Rose Point Campground, at New Castle PA. then on to Brantford.

All days were 320-350 miles except for the leg into Brantford, that was 280mi.

All pull thru sites, good and level no need for boards under the fiver. all close to the Interstate, all had fuel at the exit.

Try to plan fuel stop as to NOT fuel up in NC. Road tax is .25 higher in NC than SC.

We always take I-79. Only takes us 2 days, but I've no issue with driving 12 to 16 hours in a day. We leave Ontario and overnight in Morgantown WV. The next night we'll either stop in North Florida, or near the state line in GA. No issues with crossing the borer, we do it every 2 weeks or so in season. Have your paperwork (including for animals if you are traveling with them). Stay away from fresh fruits and veg. Answer questions with only the information the border guard asked for. Easy peasy.
