Sun seeker spare tire mount.
I rotated the tires on my 3170 this weekend. Not sure if I would want to change a flat on the side of the road. Even with the hydraulic lift down to take some of the load my three ton jack could barely lift the axle off the ground. Getting the rear duals off was exhausting. Getting the spare down required a jack and a board.
Has anyone added a tire hoist to the spare on their. Class C

No but I used a 3/4 ton PU truck cable spare tire hoist under our V-Lite TT! Works Perfect! Youroo!!

First, get rid of the 3 ton jack. It's worthless when it comes to lifting a class c. Just get a 20 ton bottle jack. It will save you much pain and frustration. Will easily lift the front and rear duals with almost no effort on your part.
Second, get a spare tire mount/lift from an F series or E series truck or van. All over e-bay, and cheap.
Or you can do what I did...get a Roadmaster dual receiver hitch insert and a Curt spare tire mount, both available from Amazon.

Thanks for the info I am going to get a 20 ton jack. I am going to look for a hoist from a super duty. I have to see if the crank is oriented in the correct way. May be time for some fabrication.

TakeItEasy, you don't have to go high dollar for a jack. If you have a Harbor Freight in your area, you can pick one up for around 40 bucks with one of their coupons. Get a regular height one, not one of the "short/stubby" jacks.
You can also get one from Amazon, Tractor Supply, ect for about 10 bucks more.
I wouldn't have recommended a 20 ton unless necessary. I tried an 8 ton and 12 ton that I had on hand, and both were a bit_h to use. The added power and leverage of a 20 ton makes jacking easy.

I am all for getting the biggest jack I can after seeing how hard it was for a three ton floor jack. I am curious to see how hard it will be with a 20 ton.

I added a Ford Expedition cable hoist to my Sunseeker. Had to add a couple 2 x4 for the tire to hit so I can access the center with the crank. But now can raise and lower spare easily.
I also have big foot levelling system that I use to raise the tires off the ground and carry a jack stand to support the axle.

There's not a good place to lift the E450 front axle. I made an adapter to utilize the E450 front axle lifting pins. I split a piece of pipe and welded it to a pipe cap that just fits the jack. It makes jacking it much more stable.
Also, I agree with the suggestion for a 20 ton jack. It's a load for my 12 ton. Those Chinese jack ratings aren't very accurate, to be polite.
In addition, I carry a 12 ton jack stand to support an axle when I remove a wheel. Plus a few boards in case it's on a soft surface. Yes, I probably go overboard. I hope I never need any of that stuff. So far, 49,000 miles on our Sunseeker and I've only used the stuff in my driveway.
Don't forget to retorque the lug nuts after 150 miles or so.

Grumpy, Does the tire move at all? If so, what do you do to make it solid? If I did that could I still tow my enclosed trailer (when loaded it weighs ~ 4000 lbs)?

Not much at all. It's a standard 2" slip in and moves a bit as does any mount you put into a 2" hitch receiver. Not enough to bother me.
The Curt spare tire mount is top quality, very well built.
As for the Roadmaster dual receiver...it is the best you can get. Expensive when compared to the imported garbage, but it will outlast your rig. Also, it's rated at 10,000 lbs towing and 400 lb hitch rating. They make two different models with different drops.
Check Amazon or ETrailer for the best prices.
And, with the tire mounted, I still tow our Subaru Crosstrek with no problems at all...no weight or clearance issues. Have towed it now for over 15,000 miles.

Shaun, I don't have a pic of the Subi hooked up from the rear, so you can't see the spacing between the rig and the Subi. But from the pic I posted, you can see there's plenty of clearence.
If you get the equipment, pm me and I'll shoot you some close ups of how I mounted the tire.

Another option, albeit an expensive one, is the Roadmaster Spare Tire Carrier. My wife bought me one as a gift and I'm quite happy with it. After crawling around to drop the spare from under our GTS in the storage lot I know that is something I would never want to try beside a road. And I'm sure it would be on a dark, wet, narrow, muddy road with litter and bug infested shoulders knowing my luck.
Warning: If you have rear slide out you may need to lower the spare before extending your slide. We have that issue and I need to try lowering the tire on the mount to see if it will clear.
Here is a picture of it with our Edge hooked up.

Agree, the Roadmaster unit is nice. But at 600 bucks, pricey. The spare and rim for our Lexi dosen't weigh that much, and wife and I can easily remove/mount it, and the Curt tire mount and Roadmaster dual hitch was under 200 bucks.
However, if we owned a class a with 19 or 22 inch rims/tires...thats a different story. Would definately have the Roadmaster unit.

Mounted my spare in large rear storage- bolted to front storage wall- to make it easier on service if they need to change it. Tst507 on spare
