Suppose to pick up new Sunseeker tomorrow- Have Vin# issue

Hi. I'm new to the forums. Purchased a new Sunseeker 2300 on a Ford E350 chassis. A 2016. Was notified by the bank tonight that the vin# on the chassis verifys a 2014. My bill of sale is for a 2016 rv. The dealer has never come across this situation in the past. I verified the chassis vin# with Ford. It's a 2014 chassis. Has anyone ever come across this situation before? Does the coach get re vin by Forest River when the rv is put on the chassis? When it's licensed will the ownership say 2014 or 2016? Any help or light shed on this situation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Forest River does the certificate of origin, it they say its a 2016 then it is. The Ford Chassis is just another part installed in the motor home. A little odd that they had the chassis for a year, but things happen.

My Ford VIN is a 2010 number, but my dmv title says it is a 2011 Sunseeker MH. At the dmv the clerk said this is normal with MHs.

Most of the time the chassis will be one year older than the rv. 2 years is a little unusual but since FR switches to the new model year so early I can see it happening. Esp with the e350 which I suspect does not have nearly as much turnaround as the 450. Shouldn't be anything to worry about since the e series have been unchanged for the last several years.

Hi everyone. Thanks for shedding some light on this subject. I guess the dealership will have to register it showing a new 2016 and send verification to the bank. This is my first motor home. Had a few travel trailers and fifth wheels in the past. Never any problem. I guess it's gonna depend on the registry being the chassis vin# or the coach vin #. Suppose to pick up tomorrow.

There is only one vin. The public vin behind the windshield, and several confidential vin's on the chassis. There is not a vin for the coach portion

For what its worth, I also happened to just receive a VIN# on a new 2290s. It is also a 2016 on an older 2014 chassis though this one is Chevy. Insurance company questioned it but it doesn't look to be that unusual (based on a little research). I guess that since it has just rolled over to 2016 models it happens to have a two year theoretical gap rather than the more popular one year.

THANK YOU very much for posting this! We went to complete our loan paperwork this morning and I asked the loan officer about this...they had indeed run into this problem (2014 chassis, 2015 unit) and got the paperwork from the dealer verifying the unit was a 2015. Thanks to your post I was prepared for this! Good luck with your new Sunseeker...we get ours next week!

Actually the coach portion DOES get a Vin.

Ford E450 is 1FDXE....

Forest River is 4X4.... the 10th digit of the that VIN will be the model year of the vehicle.

If you look at the attached picture it is the Ford Chassis title as we receive it, (No model year noted). If you look at the Forest River title it will have the model year listed. 1 year difference is pretty common. 2 years is less common, but as mentioned above, with a lower usage chassis (E350) and a quicker model year change, you can end up with 2 year difference pretty easily. Still registers according to the Forest River Model year.

Bought my 3170 sunseeker used out of new york as a 2011 Iowa registers off the chassis model year not the motor home so mine is registered as a 2010 as that is what year the chassis is. Maybe it is a state by state thing.

Arrow 2015 on a 2014 chassis!

I ordered my Sunseeker 2300 last August and received it in October. It is listed as a 2015, but the chassis is a 2014, just like others have posted.

I guess that's fairly common. We love our 2300 and if you have any questions, feel free to contact me!

I purchased a new Sunseeker 2650s in March of this year 2015. It is end of year 2014 left over. The vin shows 2013. With cars, production starts in the middle of the year at least one year prior to the model year. The model year on the title is the year of the vehicle.

Mr. Clemens

I am confused with the statement that the coach has a 4X4 VIN. I have a Solera and the VIN for the chassis and coach is the same based on the MCOs (Manufacturer Certificate of Origin) from MB and Forest River. I can find no 4X4 number anywhere. Do Soleras have separate VIN?

The reason I ask is that I am currently trying to get my Missouri title updated with the Forest River Model year instead of the MB chassis year. So far I have been sent to various state and local agencies. By the way nowhere in or on the RV can I see where Forest River shows their model year. MB shows their chassis model year which causes problems when trying to get law enforcement to inspect the vehicle to determine the correct year so the DMV will update the title. By the way the chassis is a 2013 and the Solera is a 2014. The state titled as a 2013.

Thanks,
Eric

The Forest River MSO would have the model year listed on it.

The 4X4 VIN is not always readily accessible since most people register off the chassis. Some states ONLY register off the chassis...but the only one I know of like that is NM.

But it will have one. Shoot me your VIN and I can pull up a copy of the Forest River MSO and probably the 4X4 vin.

When I registered in Illinois, they registered under the chassis VIN but took the year from the FR certificate. They collected both pieces of paper and issued a standard motor vehicle title.

Mr. Clemens,

I just wanted to publicly thank you for addressing my question via private messages. You provide a lot of great support to the owners, I appreciate it. I hope Forest River is aware of your great effort. Your company probably sells a lot more class C RVs because of this.

No thanks needed. Just remember this moment when you see my name on America's Most Wanted and I show up at your house on the same day. (Hypothetically speaking of course), just pretend everything is normal.
