Tail Dragging 31ft MH

We recently took a 31ft Sunseeker MH on a week long trip and several times when coming out of a parking lot, the tail of the MH dragged creating a horrendous scrapping grinding, which I'm sure is not good for the hitch or bottom of the MH. We were towing a car on a tow dolly, but I think it would have scrapped even without the tow car. I'm sure this is a common problem with the long overhang on 31 ft rigs. I have seen on-line a caster set from Ultra-Fab that consists of two 4" heavy-duty casters. Has anyone experience with these..do they work good? Also, where are these actually mounted..on the frame, or on the hitch receiver?

Our 2011 3170DS drags on steep transitions. Our rig pre dates when FF started putting air bags on the rear axle. We just take them slow and at an angle. Helps to just have one wheel drop at a time. Doesn't always work out that way, but never had an issue dragging a little on occasion.

Ours are on the hitch receiver and work great. We need them just to get in and out of the driveway. Still need to go slowly when they are in use.

Hitch is probably what's dragging. It has some skids installed on each end of the hitch frame just for this purpose and will not hurt anything. You can install wheels like you mentioned but make sure they don't hang down any farther than the skids. You want them as high as possible just below the lowest point of the frame or hitch. The wheels would sound better than the skids dragging but you could more easily put a lot of strain on the frame because it wouldn't signal you when the tail is dragging hard. I'd stay with the factory skids.

I agree with ATVer, the skids are there for that purpose. I'm a lot better now at scouting out parking lot entrances (typically where the MH will "bottom out").

We have a 31 foot 2013 Forester and we pull a dolly with a 3400 pound car attached. We had the same clearance problems with steep or uneven driveways and the air bags were inflated to 80 psi. I added the steel caster set to the bottom of the Forester s hitch. The casters have zerk fittings so they can be periodically lubricated. The casters are noisy when they make contact with the ground, but they save everything under the motorhome from being damaged.
